Until last year I was a happy guitarist and backing vocalist that only had to remember some choruses and few lyrics.
Last year I became "singer2 and guitarist, and it iss fucking dificult to remember lyrics on stage due to beer, guitar concentration, nerves...
Sometimes my mind gets blank and forget a sentence or two...
I can sing lyrics without a problem at home, but on stage is quite different.

How do you manage to avoid this?

I'm thinking about a portable computer in front of my mic camouflaged somehow...

Teleprompter? ;p

Or you can do what a friend of mine did.. one chorus of a song was just a bunch of words that didn't really mean anything. So he just picked 2 words and sang them over and over again. I think once he even forgot one of those words and so just sang "somethiiiiiing".

In your setlist, for every song, write down the first word of each verse you have problems to remember. Yo'll have no more than 5 diff verses, so 5 little words next to each song title. Mnemonic tricks

Teleprompter are expensive, that's why i thought about a portable computer.

Gato, I'd need a paper of 2 metres to write down all the words from verses or a very tiny writting for which i'd need an eagle eye!

That's because you play gtr too, if you were only singing, you could grab the lyrics hahah, omg how much I hate that

or get one of this and place it at the back of the venue

haha

one time i forgot to get the lyrics done for a bridge or something, and planned to do that blalba again.
unfortunately i and every other one of my bandmates started laughing^^
was funny though

In one of my first bands, the singer never wrote any lyrics to our songs. On the night of our first gig, he still hadn't got a single word as he was practising the covers we were playing more. He ended up being really nervous and scribbling down some random things (whilst having a nerve-induced shit in the venue), which he forgot anyway and ended up just doing the RARRR RARRRR BRRRAAAOUUUGHH thing for 5 whole songs, no-one noticed and all thought he was awesome!

Whereas I fucked up a solo a little and got people shaking their heads!! Pays to go full vocalist, man!

Those blabla, and rooarroogggg. are ok if vocals are screams or you speak in english and the country is not english tongued.
But this is a band which lyrics are very important and people know them all. Any small piece of mistake is the lyrics and people will notice it.

Perhaps I should stop singing when my mind gets blank and let the audience sing.
