All right, this is an idea I've been rolling around in my head for a while. It seems to me that Amon Amarth are due for a compilation album. I hesitate to call it a "Best of" because that is such a subjective thing. For the hel of it, I figure we can put our collective opinions together as Amon Amarth fans and come up with a track list for such a project. This will not be easy.
For now, let's call this thing Death in Fire and assign it Ozzloaf's amazing work of the same name for cover art.
Here's my proposal on how we can develop a fairly representative track listing. I want to use a system of weighted votes. Anyone interested in participating posts their list of the ten - and only ten - songs they want to see on this, ranked in order from one to ten. (Did I mention this won't be easy?) Each song is then awarded a number of points based on its position on the individual's list. Song 1 gets 10 points, song 2 gets 9 points, song 3 gets 8 points, etc., until song 10 gets 1 point.
In the end, I will total the points for each song that receives any votes and reply with a listing of songs according to the number of points they receive. The theory is that this will give us a list of songs that probably none of us will be completely happy with but will also be fairly representative of the overall choices of the participants.
In order for this to work, this will need a deadline, but I don't want to rush anyone, either. Let's give this until the end of the year. Lists posted on or before December 31st 2008 will be included in the tally. This also means that posted lists could be edited up until that date.
I've been thinking about this for a few weeks and still haven't settled on my list. I have my songs chosen, but selecting the order is a real challenge. I'm asking for a lot of consideration from everyone.
I do ask that we respect each other's choices and not slam one another. I want honest opinions on song choice and I want as many participants as possible.
Please only post an ordered list of ten songs or this will not work.
Summary:
A list of 10, and only 10, songs numbered in order of preference. This is essential.
Don't bash each others choices
