Okay, so Megadeth has been a band I haven't ever really gotten. Some of it I liked, but I didn't pay much attention.

With the release of United Abominations I kinda got my mind changed. While I agree that some of the lyrics (UA, Amerikhastan) are terrible, most of the albums is GREAT. So, I finally decided to dig deeper in, and I'm fast finding that Megadeth might just plain be one of my favorite f*$#ing bands. I mean, Jesus, I had no idea (for whatever reason). Even the albums I've heard, "aren't that great..." are full of killer stuff. Dave is an AMAZING songwriter.

I'm blown away. Been buying and listening to everything (and yes, Rust in Peace is probably the best one....but the others are in no way lame). I even like The System Has Failed. One of the finer catalogues in metal, I'd say. Complex, catchy, heavy....

All hail Dave. I'm a convert! I really feel like I've just ,'discovered,' a Maiden or some such...with a huge back catalogue. I'm having a blast.

don't overlook RISK. that was a great album just more hard/pop metal style than heavy metal. YOUTHANASIA is the best though :kickass:

+ Dave still puts on great live shows (despite the fact that I have no idea who anybody else in his band is anymore).

Their debut is also an overlooked classic. The remixed version blows away the inferior original version.

In fact, I love that all of the albums have been remixed. More bands should do so.....it breathes new life into the music.

I'd love for Led Zep to remix their entire back catalogue (and, to satisfy purists, dont allow the original mixes to go out-of-print).

If I may suggest a DVD to add to you collection....."Rude Awakening". :)

I do plan on getting this. I purchased the iTunes soundtrack to the latest DVD (That One Night), and it's killer (though I'm sure some would disagree with me). Dave has re-discovered the higher register of his voice, and songs like Reckoning Day are just amazing!

This DVD/CD is proof of Dave's greatness too...since you get songs across their whole catalogue, but continually find yourself saying, "...this one is bitchin' too..." as each song starts.

2 of the Drover brothers (Glenn: Guitar and Shawn: Drums) are from Eidolon (Canadian Power Metal band).
Glenn also played in King Diamond.

James Lomenzo played in White Lion and later Black Label Society.

Megadeth is a band I really enjoyed, I have PSBWB and SFSGSW in my car right now. I feell they lose some track with CW and didn't bother afterwards, but UA is a strong comeback IMO, much cohesive than even CW albeit not as heavy. At least Dave knows how to keep his path and hadn't sell out shamelessly yet.

Countdown to Extinction is, IMO, the best Megadeth has ever been. I love all Megadeth, but that and RIP are the "classic" lineup ripping up their best.

On the same topic, did anyone else really dig Al Pitrelli? I kinda still wish he was in the band (the Drover brothers are great, however).

james has also worked with every wylde project, david lee roth and toured with slash's snakepit

Hey SM, I thought they were all remixed? Or is it remastered? Or is that the same thing? Not being sarcastic here....I'm really pretty sure that the boxset was touted as a remaster thing (and the individual albums have since been released outside the boxset).

Anyway, speaking of Zep I could've sworn Dave M. was bragging on a cover of Immigrant Song when UA was being recorded. Whatever happened to that?

Dave Mustaine is an egomaniac, but he was also truthful when he said he's one of the best rhythm guitarists in metal history.

Lousy singer, horrible lyricist, but DAMN can he ever play. He also (most of the time) writes sweet music as well.

I think Dave's singing & lyrics are generally pretty damn good. Singing may be a little diminished in the past few years, but Dave's snarl is one of the things that makes 'Deth distinctive.

I will admit that the Lee Ving vox on the original MD45 album are better then the Dave vox on the remaster.

nobody can sneer like mustaine.he doest it better than anyone!
his singing, while not orthadoxically good,is extremely interesting.i like it a lot.
its the venom he puts in stuff like hook in mouth and liar, really brilliant.
dont call him emo tho......
and he does rip mightily on guitar.fantastic rythmn, great leads...if only jeff waters had have joined them when dave asked him too..but i guess that wouldnt have lasted long...

They are playing in Portland on Sunday, I have a press pass but I think I'll pass... I'm not that impressed with Dave live anymore... I saw him on the first Gigantour and then saw the DVD... He's lost a couple of steps. The band he has now is phenominal though.

if you change your mind sixx, thier support band,in this moment, are damn good....friends of ours ,we toured with them this summer.kind of killswitchy with a female singer.....dont really know how to describe them properly, but they are fantastic live.

I have seen them already great band. I saw them in a little dive that held like 500 people, they played their asses off. In fact it's the same hole in the wall that Edguy will be playing at the end of the month...
