I've heard Gsnap is apparently quite effective but are there any other alternatives?
Im a bit strapped for cash right now (Im not really im just saving up for a monster of a head) and need a quick fix as I have a band in on the 10/11th who aren't vocally perfect but the music calls for it.

If all else fails I will just annihilate the vocalist with 'that was good but lets do another take just incase' requests and then splice the best parts :Shedevil:

+1 for going to Cubase 5. The Variaudio feature in there is excellent. You get an inline editor and a plugin as well.

Before I used AutoTune.. and it was much more difficult to use and keep things sounding natural.

As far as free ones, Gsnap is the only one I know of.

I'm still running Cubase 4. Is the upgrade to 5 really that intense? Because I'm spending the amount of the upgrade, I'd be inclined to just buy Melodyne or something. Is there anything apart from the Variaudio stuff worth the money?

Sorry to derail a little, but it's still kind of on-topic..

I skipped over 4 and went SX 3 to 5. And at the time, I think the cost was $200 or so. It was a pretty big jump in features. Variaudio, REVerence, and Control Room, and Batch Export (huge time-saver for Pro Tools collaboration) is what drew me in.

At the time, Melodyne was a separate program, so the workflow was worth and for the level of correction I do, it worked just as well. Even pretty major fixes and key changes sound convincing. The other thing I liked about Variaudio, is that you can change timing and much more easily match it up with the song since it is all contained.

Since I am more of a write on the fly metal guy, LoopMash, Media Browser, GrooveAgent and such didn't excite me as much. But I do use them once and a while to experiment and they are cool. Groove agent is useful for using custom drum samples.

The Arranger track upgrades from SX to 5 were sweet. In 5.5 the Control+Scroll wheel zoom is pretty sweet, simple but improved my workflow big time.
