Fuck the writers strike! (24 Related)

pfft.

I mean, after next week, no more new Office episodes... which I enjoy.

Gonna end up costing me money in video games to entertain myself for the 3 hours a night I watch TV.

I think the part that hurts the most isn't the wait for the show to start back, but not knowing how long the wait will be.

If you're looking to video games to fill up tv time, take a look at Assassin's Creed coming out next week on 360 and PS3, Mass Effect coming out towards the end of the month on 360, and Super Mario Galaxy out next week on Wii.

Already got a list of games to purchas(your list are some of them), its more of the fact that I'm gonna end up knocking them out in a night each since I'll have nothing better to do with my time.

Here's some good news then. I very much doubt that you'll be knocking out Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect in a single night. From what I understand, if you just plow straight through AC with no finesse, planning, and not even trying to explore anything, it'll still take around 20 hours gameplay. If you try to get the most out of it, then double that, if not more. Mass Effect, that should take a ton of time as well. The story itself takes long enough, but you never get everything in any single play through. The choices you make in game will determine which avenues open up to you. That doesn't even cover the fact that you have 3 different histories, 3 different personality types, 6 or 7 types of combat specialization, and the option to play as a man or a woman. Do the math on that, and you've got a ton of different ways to just start the game, and each one has an effect on how everything plays out. Thats a ton of gameplay. Mario might be a little on the short side, but you can always go back and play through as Luigi, so that might help lengthen it a bit.

Overall, just those 3 games should be enough to last quite a while. And there's still a ton of games out there. Gears of War just came to PC with expanded content. Theres the Orange Box with HL2, HL2ep1, HL2ep2, Team Fortress, and Portal that's available. Plenty of games out there. I'm sure you can waste a good bit of time.

I'm on top of recent releases... already beat the witcher, orange box, COD 4, etc... I go week by week on games.

I usually doubt the estimated completion times of most games pre-release. Granted, most of them aren't the "Oh yeah, I beat it in 4 hours" shit most players say, I do notice a trend of MUCH less gameplay out of them.

Take bioshock for instance, took me about 13-14 hours, which was much lower than the hype delivered. Granted, it was a great game despite the failure to live up to all the hype.

Then again, sometimes I like shorter games. Portal is my game of the year, easily. Was only about 3 hours or so, but I'll be damned if it wasn't the best 3 hours I've had playing a game since Grim Fandango.

I have to agree that there does seem to be a new trend of games being excruciatingly short. That's why I'm so glad about this next crop. They actually look to have some depth. I heard Bioshock was short, but excellent. I like a good short game every once and a while, but when I'm shelling out upwards of $60 a pop for games, I don't like paying $10 each hour of gameplay. But then again, I've been hopelessly addicted to solitaire recently, so it doesn't take too much to entertain me.

How was the Witcher? That looked pretty good, but I remember hearing it had some issues. COD4 is multiplayer goodness all the way through, but I'm not sure I'll get it.

Getting back on topic just a little: Am I the only one that didn't really like 24 the game? It sucked. The only good thing was the cast doing the voices.

24 the game was fucking stupid.

As for The Witcher, aside from some obviously laggy control issues and a few other annoying bugs it was a really good game. I'd say wait for a patch or 2 and hopefully they'll of worked out the controls a bit. Can get really annoying when travelling, when the camera decides to go off and do its own thing and you end up running in circles.
