Game Soundtracks

The Terran and Zerg songs from Starcraft are better than the best heavy metal song. Everything Alexander Brandon and Andrew G. Saga have touched (Tyrian 2000, Crusader: No Remorse/Regret, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Unreal (Tournament), and Deus Ex) is brilliant as well. Game soundtracks kick ass. :kickass:

I used to do this when I leveled up in D&D because the DM HATED Final Fantasy games.

I can see why a DM would. I hate the fact that the Final Fantasy games are considered RPGs, although I like the franchise itself, but I'd rather think of them as... Adventure games maybe?

Anyway, I really, really like 8-bit music, so I could name a billion NES games... Punch-Out, Chaos World, Mega Man, etc.

The Soul Calibur 4 music is awesome

Sorta, but holy GAWD I really hate that faggy announcer guy.

THE WINNER WILL BE THE LAST ONE STANDING!!

...no shit you fuck.

cherko: RPG means a few different things. Real RPGs such as D&D can't accurately be programmed as video games (I guess Morrowind etc. do a good job but really, you can't do it) because of how INTENSELY open-ended they are. Most Japanese RPGs railroad you through a storyline...but what else can they really do? I think of both kinds of things as RPGs, I don't see the need to be so exclusive about what something means; different styles, that's all they are. Adventure games are like Myst and other point-and-click or non-combative sorta things tbh.

This is still the coolest fuckin' thing ever: http://ff7.ocremix.org/

I guess you could call them Console RPGs for convenience's sake, but it really is an obvious mislabelling, kinda like extreme power metal.

There are different kinds of rpgs. The classic board game rpg, action rpgs, console turn based rpgs, mmorpgs, etc.

No it isn't, and it's nothing like that. And extreme power metal exists.

I thought it was "decided" that most extreme power metal had little to do with power metal at all and should rather be called extreme melodic metal.

And calling Final Fantasy an RPG of any kind is a mislabelling because it doesn't give you any of the freedom I link with the genre. In any case, I'm not going to argue this beyond this post. Disagree if you will.

Wow, you're stupid. It's a DIFFERENT TYPE OF RPG!!! Get that through your small mind.

BTW, best type of RPG is the traditional ones like Baldurs Gate and Fallout.

I also think most jrpgs are more of adventure games then rpgs. If games like Final Fantasy or Secret of Mana are considered rpgs, why isn't for example Zelda an rpg? My definition of an rpg is pretty much when you play a character you created yourself and were you can influence and make your own choices how to play the game. Most Jrpgs has very little of this which imo makes them more of adventure games as I said before. Most jrpgs > "real" console/computer rpgs though. :p
