So....on top of having NO fucking sleep all night (thanks a fucking bundle, NHS dentistry), it comes to dawn and I think "fuck it, I'll just switch on the 360 and play some GTA4".

Try this, works for me:

Disconnect all cords except power cord and take the hardrive off.

Turn it on, hopefully the RROD won't come up. If they do just turn it off and plug everything back in, put the hardrive in and then try it.

I noticed that the rings come up when something isn't plugged in properly.

Yeah, I tried the above earlier - but no dice.

I thought I was lucky - all of the other early 360 adopters at work are on at least their 2nd console.

I love the 360, but by fuck whoever was in charge of quality control needs the GH3 controller wedged up his filthy ring-box. Sideways.
