German thrash vs the world???

The problem with this thread is there's an underlying assumption either or is the best in the world. The American thrash scene was larger than the U.K. scene, but Sabbat is superior to many American thrash bands or at least three of the big four.

american and german thrash are different kind of metal... american thrash is more technical, and german thrash is more fast and raw.

so, if you like thrash mixed with heavy, you must listen to american thrash bands, like metallica, anthrax or forbidden.

german thrash has some aspects from death metal...

Testament-the legacy and the new order are good it's just they are commercial thrash like metallica after kill 'em all and you are actually not really listening to a thrash album. Destruction,Sodom, and Kreator thrash hard and are intense bands.

I hope you're not seriously suggesting that the UK scene ever came even remotely close to matching either the US scene or the German scene. Aside from the first two Sabbat albums, Onslaught, the first Xentrix, and Xyster, what else did they have aside from an oversaturation of gaggingly boring copycat bands?

I worded it wrong.

German Scene is superior to American Legends. Not discrediting Megadeth or Slayer, they are truly great bands, but I just can't get enough of Sodom & Kreator at their peak.

Though I am not too knowledgeable when it comes to Thrash. So far the only bands I have checked out are Kreator, Sodom, Sepultura, Slayer, Megadeth.

Oh, Kreator were certainly more consistent in their prime than Megadeth, I'll give them that. Megadeth made too many concessions to Max Norman and Dan Hough in their quest for popular success, and Mustaine's legendary drug habit put a serious crimp into So Far So Good So What.

Buuuuutttt... I still prefer Megadeth overall, and think Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are two of the best thrash albums ever made, not to mention that Mustaine is one of the best riff writers in metal history, which actually made their forays into pop metal enjoyable. They really only had four thrash albums (and yeah, SFSGSW was pretty crappy), but I actually like a good deal of their non-thrash music as well.

Alright, I'm going back into my cave now. :P

And there are far more great German thrash bands than the ones you mentioned. Protector might be one of the best of them all, but they were always relatively unknown for some reason.

Eh, I downloaded a few songs, but it didn't really grab me. Sounded too much like a Destruction clone. Sorry. *shrugs*

Um...Obsessed By Cruelty?

You know, that album didn't do much for me when I first heard it, but it's been a few years, and I was sort of a prog metal snob at the time. Mebbe I'll go back and give it another chance...

Not that I know jack shit because I've never delved much into thrash metal, but I like the German thrash scene more because they seem put more thought and effort into their songwriting. The US bands appear to be more about a "coolness" factor than maintaining any musical integrity.

That depends on what "coolness" is defined by and whether or not it's mutually exclusive from musical integrity, nevermind that both are pretty subjective to begin with.

Shit, that's tough, I have that too... :erk:

Oh, and saying that Machine Head and Pantera sucks balls does not equal critical sense, you know! that's just oooobvious! :p

Hey now!

I also hate jollyfolk and gay power metal, I don't care much for grindcore and other -cores or crossover or gay shit in any genre, I just don't bother complaining about it a lot since I mostly skip those threads/ignore those posts (note: I said mostly, not always)

How many of the bands you dismiss as rubbish/generic/boring/unnecessary in that list have you actually given a good listen?

Woah, I'd never imply that you had anything but the most impeccable of tastes, O' Mighty Hell Mike! Come on now...

Let's see... Of the bands I considered to be irrelevant on that list, I've heard the following:

Assassin
Mekong Delta
Necronomicon
Holy Moses
Iron Angel
Poison
Tankard
Angel Dust
Exumer
Minotaur

And the word that struck me the most was 'derivative'. Don't get me wrong, though, I suppose some of these are good for a thrash and a beer, but hardly something I'd bother passing off as essential, when the three greats (Kreator, Destruction and Sodom) basically do everything better (Not that Dødens did, though... the only reason we are having this discussion, after all, is because V5 got his little panties in a bunch). For people who listens to large amounts of thrash, I can see that these second-tiers can provide some healthy variation, though.
