Hi!
I'm thinking about buying a preamp to use with impulses for quick demos and such.
I've been thinking about the ADA MP-1, Marshall JMP and Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp (old one). Also looked at the Eleven Rack from digi but don't know if it's any good.
I want a pretty cheap one, already have a 5150 with a marshall cab but it's kinda big for my apartment and is at my parents house.

Guitartones i really like is Goldfinger's album Stomping Ground, New Found Glory's album Catalyst, Deftones' album Around The Fur, Revolution Mother's album Rollin With The Muthas and similiar stuff.

I would really appreciate it if you could give me some advice!

Ive heard that the Marshall JMP feels quite good at first, but the more you use it, the more you hate it.. and the exact opposite with the MP-1.
Also, there are unlimited amounts of modifications for the ADA MP-1.

But hey, Soldano SP77?
Ive seen them go for ~400$ here in Sweden, and thats basically the SLO100 preamp.

Yeah, I just found a site about modding the MP-1. Very interesting. I wonder how it sounds with the Mesa mod and impulses.

I'll have to check out the Soldano SP77, sounds very interesting. See if I find one. Haven't seen many Soldano amps/preamps for sale on sites from sweden though.

Thanks for the advice so far!

pre-amps are so 80´with all the "metal-racks" :)

For live use, id say that most guitarist that plays with heads will also have a rack for effects.. so well, those racks will still be there! ;)
Besides, 80's bands had better tones and players then modern bands! :muahaha:

How many mods does the ADA mp1 have?

Were you talking about the 3 tube mod?

No, im talking about Mod3.

And its impossible to tell the amounts of mods there are for the ADA MP-1.. ADA Depot have about 15 mods for it.. but there are shitloads of other mods out there.

If you want it more aggressive, its Mod3, 3TM or Mod 3.666 you should aim for.
They are all pretty much aimed at turning the MP-1 more into the modern Rectifier-ish preamps.

.. simply put, the ADA MP-1 seems to have been built perfectly for modding.
