I'm actually gonna agree with the getting baked part before mixing. I've done it several times, and you can hear things you normally wouldn't pick up sober. I do end up working a little slower than usual though but I just think about it as getting another opinion that you understand as well as your origional opinion.
It sorta helps turn me back into a 'ordinary listener' instead of the typical 'analytical engineer'. I don't know about anyone else but I feel it's different to listen to a song, while watching the session, than to listen to it in itunes, media player or in the car.

Years ago I got baked before work because it was a shitty 3rd shift job inserting ads into newspapers. It was good to be as completely disconnected from what I was actually doing as possible to help time go by a little faster... The irony is that everything seemed like it took FOREVER to get done.
