hey lads....

I'm just working on some new songs for my own band....
the problem is that none of us knew the songs before we started tracking (we just created the songs like LEGO in the studio....with no time..), so the playing was not really tight to be honest...

usually I'm into tight tones (think nevermore-TGE, Doomsday machine etc)...but for the given reasons I thought this stuff could benefit from a less tight tone....I threw tons of ribbon-mic in there for that purpose (almost 50% ribbon, 50% sm57)....still I think this didn't turn out as untight as I thought it should....perhaps I'm just not good in getting thos "inflames" etc kinda tones ;)....

anyway, before I start reamping I thought I'd ask you guys what you think about the tone:

I'm drunk

of course there's no EQ, Komp etc on it so far (cept 60Hz, 14k HP/LP)

I'm just listening to it on my headphones but sounds really heavy! I really like the tone!
Any chance we can get an impulse from that?
Oh, and what were the settings on the 5150? I just got a 5150 EVH and I'm trying to get a nice heavy tone out of it.

thanks...
to e honest....I'm too stupid to make impulse-responses..(and on a mac ;) ).

I still have the mics set up, so if anyone can give me an idiotproof guide till in like 10am tomorrow (it's 11:30pm over here right now....so in like 11 hours latest would be cool) I'll do it...after 10:00 I'll tear down the cab though cause I'll be recording drums.

setting was something like (roughly):
green channel both buttons in
gain: 6.2
bass:6
mid:2.5
treb: 5.4
post: 3
res: 7.2
pres: 8.3

Well, just record the preamp signal from the 5150 and the miced cab at the same time while you play some riffs. Send the files to me and I'll make an impulse out of that!
Thanks for the settings, I'll try those out!
By the way, did you use a TS in front of the amp?

Yep, record the guitars as you normally would with the mic'ed track, just also simultaneously record the signal coming from the FX send - that way, the deconvolver program can compare the original to what it sounds like after going through the power amp, cab, mic, preamp, and AD converters!

Oh yeah, and as for the tone, I LOOOOOVVVEEE that Krank grind, very nice! Can't say much more at this point, but it seems plenty tight to me, not at all flubby (I assume you're referring to the low frequencies). And...

of course there's no...Komp etc on it so far

Kraut status confirmed :heh::lol:

Or just read what Carlsman and myself wrote earlier in this very thread, there's really not much to it!

I think the tone is pretty loose :kickass: It's got the right amount of gain, and bottom end. I think if you were to jam some more drone like riffs, it would fit right in. The sample riff is just very tight to begin with. Kudos on the tone!
