GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1993

If everyone would agree to use the same formatting and spelling, it’d be relatively easy to write a program to tally these shits up for us

It’s having the machine understand that MoP = Puppets = Master of Puppets that is a pain in the ass

Although, just going by band could work for many years

@crimsonfloyd is why we can't have nice things.

Y'all bitching. When I did one of the years, tallying up the results took no longer than 45-60 minutes. As mentioned, just hand-type the artist in excel and it should populate with a previous entry (unless it's the first of its kind) - of course keep an eye out if this artist released two records in the same year, but that is rare. Then use sort functions etc to quickly get #of votes, who voted for what, etc. The long part of this process is the finding of quotes - NOW THAT'S time consuming

It's not even that long. Copy/paste and a few formulas can get you the answer in like 30 minutes

if I was doing it, would just throw all the lists in a text file and write an R program to create a data frame of the distinct albums and tally their scores. But there's too many ways to accomplish the same thing, and I have work to do

Another way would be for us to just take turns (not volunteering here lol)

yeah, just curious if there was a way to get the data from here to a txt file easier

I finish for a week on Friday so I will get them done then.

Yeah that’s definitely the reason...

I’ve got some exam analysis to do and lots of other work that I didn’t anticipate to have to do over the holidays. But I’m going to do these results today. Seems to be a lot less unique albums voted for so it shouldn’t take as long.

10) Elements by Atheist
Something so divine the spectacle of Elements

"I have their albums Unquestionable Presence > Elements > Piece of Time > Jupiter.

All four of those are great albums, but their first three are fucking top-notch." - @TechnicalBarbarity

"I like all Atheist except Elements. The music sounds rushed, halfed ass & the production sucks. Atheist already broke up before but were in contract to go back into the studio. You can tell something is not right about 'elements' imo. Sure it would be pretty hard to top Unquestiobal Presence but elements just does not even cut a decent attempt. " - CF87

"I think Elements is a great album. Yes, the production does suck, yes, the album is not Unquestionable Presence Part 2, but I think that the point for a band is to move on and make new things, and Atheist did succeed to do that.
Atheist was an inovative band, they always were, and I hope that they will be if they put out something new. "- andrew_plamondon
