RYM film chart

Deadline is MARCH 31st. If you need an extension just say so and it will absolutely be considered. This is usually just a soft deadline to make sure everybody doesn't become complacent.

REMEMBER for those of you who haven't seen many films from this year or in general, you can always submit lists as small as only having 5 submissions.

Rules:

- Please submit at least 5 films.
- First place in your rankings gets 10 points, 2nd gets 9, etcetc, 10th gets 1.
- Feel free to post more than 10, but only the top 10 will get points.
- Feel free to post less than 10, the same scoring will apply.
- Feel free not to rank your picks, in which case all ten picks will get 5.5 points.
- If you're so much of a dick that you have to post more than 10 unranked picks, the maths will be worked out.

prelim unranked list based in many cases on a 15 year old memory:
the new world (malick)
a history of violence (cronenberg)
l'enfant (dardennes)
cigarette burns (carpenter) - if it counts, it's one of his best.
cache (haneke) - no idea how i'd feel about this now
broken flowers (jarmusch) - ditto
king kong (jackson) - always thought this was underrated. probably need to see the spielbergs from this year again too.
grizzly man (herzog)
brick (johnson) - rewatched recently, still quite like it
tideland (gilliam) - might hate this now lol, used to be my favourite gilliam

stuff that's high up on my wishlist:
noriko's dinner table (sono)
strange circus (sono)
hazard (sono)
election (to)
the wayward cloud (tsai)
tale of cinema (hong)
the squid and the whale (baumbach)
three times (hou)
mutual appreciation (bujalski)
mary (ferrara)
the sun (sokurov)
linda linda linda (yamashita)
manderlay (von trier)
lady vengeance (park)
loft (kurosawa)
a bittersweet life (kim)

I've been meaning to check out Election for a while too. I need to watch a few more films to even make it to 10 for this year. Pretty confident A History of Violence will take the top spot though

watch every johnnie to movie tbh, that shit is so fun to just binge-watch and very up your street i’d imagine. there’s so many and they’re basically all good to great. even the milkyway stuff that isn’t officially directed by to tends to rule.
