Godsmack and Disturbed

I've been listening to their two recent singles a lot lately.

Unfortunately, it shifts my opinions of them.

I KNOW for a fact that Godsmack is thoroughly entertaining and rockin on stage. Saw them open for MetallicA after that sham of an album was put out, and they kicked plenty of ass. I'd like to see them on a headlining show.

But now that I heard these two songs, Sully has a VERY one-dimensional voice. He has a particular range, and does not venture outside of it. Doesn't leave much for growth or progress or invention.

Draiman and the boys seem to consistently write better riffs, cooler songs, better song structure, newer sounds, and slowly building better guitar solos to prove he can play his instrument. This new single is really aggressive, yet creative. I like that. A lot.

I'll see Disturbed soon enough again. Then I can compare live vs. live.

We were probably at the same show! I'd read spoilers so I knew how Godsmack's set was going to go, but that did kick ass. Sort of embarrassing that it was the first time we'd seen them, since I'm FROM MA and was living there as they were hitting it big...

Where are they performing? I'm turning into a little old lady and can't do the GA shows so well anymore. ;)

You keep using that opinion bs dude. Gimmicky crap that is geared for 15 year olds? 100 % False? Thats not opinion, try again.

I am all for opinions bad or good on anything weather I like it or not, when you speak like a 15 year old, you'll get treated like one.

Anything ANYONE says is an opinion. Look up the word dumbass.

But opinions can be wrong.:Smug:

I don't much care for either band, but just because their sound IMO is uninventive and pandering to an age group I'm not going so far as to say they have no talent or skill. In fact, after reading some of what is posted here, I'm going to give them both another try.

Thats not an opinion dipshit. Your words and your opinions mean less and less when you talk like that but hey when in ignorantville, do as the ingorant do LOL

I looked up Jasonic and saw a picture of a monkey, that was wierd!

No anger whatsoever. As if I almost care that someone doesn't agree with my views on two completely irrelevant commercial bands. If you like and enjoy them, great. Don't have a hissy fit though when someone doesn't agree with you.

I am the same way. I haven't heard much from either band and really had no interest, but I think I'll check them out now.

No prob. I am done with the debate. The only reason I continued posting is because Bear is claiming that my comments are not opinions. The thread began with a question on our opinions of the two bands, and I gave mine. I am done with this. As I said, no anger on my end.

to the disturbed fans: please elaborate on what you think shows good musicianship or a unique and successful approach to song writing, I am legitmatly curious as to what a prog fan can find redeeming in their music. I find their music to be generic and lame, with 2 power chord riffs any asshole with a guitar could come up with. This would only make them just as bad as the usually nu-metal band. But how can anyone take the vocals and lyrics seriously? With all of the monkey noises and other ridiculously cheesy (in a bad way) vocal phrasing and lyrics seemingly ripped from a 12 year old wrestling fans diary. To me its just some wigger/tough guy wanna be making a complete fool of himself.

to godsmack fans: how do you not see that band as just a poor ripoff of alice in chains

I just remember being like 13 when "stupify" hit the commercial radio stations, and even despite my horrible commercial taste back then, like korn and slipknot, I could still see the hokeyness of disturbed. to me they are good for an unintentional laugh, thats about it

I had no idea that I couldn't be a prog fan AND a Disturbed and Godsmack fan. Sometimes I want different things from my music. I don't always need proggy elements. I don't always want power metal. Somedays, I only listen to Enya and Enigma. :) I like Disturbed and Godsmack. I like Helloween, Evergrey, Pain of Salvation... sometimes there's just a groove or whatever that catches me more on a given day.

I don't ever expect someone to like a band because I do. I like Disturbed (angry white boy music) because I just like... well... I can't even list specifics. I just DO and that's good enough for me. I've never seen the need to flame or attack someone for a band I don't like. Sure, Disturbed and Godsmack are the very definition of mainstream music. Sure, it's frustrating if you think it's a crappy band getting the money, the promotion, the label support and Your Favorite Band isn't, but that doesn't mean my taste in music sucks more than your's does. It sucks differently than your taste. ;)
