That's ok...I am tempted to listen to some punk rock to wash the taste of this thread out of my mouth.

Entropiastrife said:to the disturbed fans: please elaborate on what you think shows good musicianship or a unique and successful approach to song writing, I am legitmatly curious as to what a prog fan can find redeeming in their music. I find their music to be generic and lame, with 2 power chord riffs any asshole with a guitar could come up with. This would only make them just as bad as the usually nu-metal band. But how can anyone take the vocals and lyrics seriously? With all of the monkey noises and other ridiculously cheesy (in a bad way) vocal phrasing and lyrics seemingly ripped from a 12 year old wrestling fans diary. To me its just some wigger/tough guy wanna be making a complete fool of himself.
to godsmack fans: how do you not see that band as just a poor ripoff of alice in chains
I just remember being like 13 when "stupify" hit the commercial radio stations, and even despite my horrible commercial taste back then, like korn and slipknot, I could still see the hokeyness of disturbed. to me they are good for an unintentional laugh, thats about it
There are many different reasons that people find themselves drawn to a particular band, CD or song. For me, with respect to Disturbed, I enjoy the vocal delivery and the vocal melodies. I find them catchy and I enjoy the attitude with which they're delivered.Entropiastrife said:to the disturbed fans: please elaborate on what you think shows good musicianship or a unique and successful approach to song writing, I am legitmatly curious as to what a prog fan can find redeeming in their music. A fair question. I love AiC. And there's absolutely no comparing the two bands in terms of originality, talent or quality (IMO). That said, there's a vibe that Godsmack brings to the table that so many of the other AiC-influenced bands lack. Again, I like the vocals and the melodies. However, I also dig the music. It's got attitude and an energy I appreciate.Entropiastrife said:to godsmack fans: how do you not see that band as just a poor ripoff of alice in chains
Entropiastrife said:actually both bands pretyt much epitomize shitty generic radio nu-metal that doesn't go outside the box or push anything. too me both sound like a bad version of alice in chains, only disturbed have more monkey noises
TimeStitcher said:I like Disturbed because I just like... well... I can't even list specifics. I just DO and that's good enough for me.

Godsmack did a good Priest medley....
Electric Eye / Victim of Changes / Hell Bent for Leather
The vocalist wasn't dead on, but still decent.
The guitarist did a good job.

I assume you're talking about post "Pyromania" Def Leppard? Because "Pyromania", and to a lesser extant, "High n Dry" are two of the finest Hard Rock/Metal discs of all-time.Iced Ray said:- This news just in...Def Leppard still suck.
I could care less ifIced Ray said:- Why was Jamie Pressley talking like a black woman when it was a 'rock' honor show?
I haven't bothered watching Kiss for nearly 30 years, so we agree on this one.Iced Ray said:I didn't bother watching KISS.

Just out of curiosity, how old are you? I don't mean that to be insulting, I'm just curious from what perspective you're looking at it.Iced Ray said:Not in my book...not even close. High N Dry was a tad above mediocre and I consider that their best album.

To me, all these bands were Metal. I didn't draw any distinction between Motley Crue and Ozzy. They were different peas in the same pod.Iced Ray said:But seriously, when Leppard broke big in the early 80's, I viewed them in the same vein as other groups of that time - Quiet Riot, Ratt, Motley Crue, etc... bands that were borderline metal and more hard rock.
While I like all the bands you've listed here, I'd take Crue, Ratt and Def Lep over Ozzy, Accept and Priest. For me, it was Ozzy and Accept who were inconsistent. Ozzy, even in his solo prime, wrote songs that make me want to tare my ears off.Iced Ray said:They may have had a few decent tunes here and there but basically were second rate when compared to the better bands of that time - Priest, Maiden, Accept, Ozzy, DIO, Savatage, etc...
Dokken was easily the most overlooked band of the 80s. However, it always seemed to me that they lacked conviction. They weren't sure who they wanted to be. I remember reading an interview with Lynch, where he mentioned that they felt an enormous sense of preasure to keep up with Motley Crue from an image perspective. They constantly went from writing these bad ass tunes like "Mr. Scary" and "Kiss of Death" to radio-oriented shit like "Burning Like a Flame" (one of the worst songs Ive ever heard). That said, "Tooth and Nail", "Under Lock and Key" and "Back for the Attack" are all stellar discs.Iced Ray said:IMO, the best band of that genre (hair metal/hard rock) was Dokken who blew away the Leppards and Quiet Riots of the world easily.
