Gordon Smith guitars (and a question about brazilian cedar)

Ok, so the Explorer fetish just won't leave me alone. I found this today: http://www.gordonsmithguitars.com/products/category.php?id=11

Hand-made Explorers for a very reasonable price. Has anyone got any experience with these? The only thing that troubles me is that the body is brazilian cedar. What does is sound like? I love the mahogany+EMG81 combination and I really don't want to stray too far from that. Thanks!

Haven't received a reply yet, but I'm fairly sold on getting one. They seem to be great bang for the buck, and while I do like my Hellraiser, I never got the "WHOA FUCK YEAH"-sensation when picking it up for the first time. I'm thinking of an Explorer with the following specs:

- Gloss black finish
- Black hardware
- Tune-O-Matic bridge
- EMG81 in the bridge
- No neck pup
- Only one volume control, nothing more
- No pickguard

Cheers, seems great! Diablo's frontman Rainer Nygård had a very similar Explorer made from Spanish Cedar, so I'm pretty confident with the wood choice. I'm waiting for Mr. Smith to answer if they can make an axe with just one pickup and some general details. If it's possible I'll get a final quote to see how much the whole deal would cost and hopefully put down my deposit on one. The site states that the waiting time is about six months ATM, which isn't too bad.

By the way, if you guys aren't familiar with Diablo, I'd strongly suggest you check them out on Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/album/7m6FQOfcmYigMVfIkmtrSM

Ok, a bit of an update. I got the final quote today and paid the advance deposit right away. I also opted for no inlays at all, because that's, like, totally metal and evil and shit. The final sum for my Explorer ended up at about 1050€ including shipping to Finland, and the ETA is early October. Can't wait!

Anyone want to buy a Hellraiser C-1? :D

I sent an e-mail asking if my Explorer is still on schedule, since I'm selling my current main guitar now. Linda answered almost immediately and it's Sunday afternoon. Seriously? That's what I call customer service, five thumbs up!

Anyway, the wood is now being lacquered. At the end of the week it'll be painted and then it's time for the finishing lacquer. ETA early October. Can't wait!

Looking at the specs it seems like its going to be a killer guitar for metal ,I like how guitar looks with one pu only .Dont forget to post pictures and clips when the guitar arrives .

I sent them an email about the guitar, and seems it won't be finished until the end of the month. Not a biggie, but I would have appreciated if they would have informed me about it, because it was supposed to be ready in the beginning on this month, and now I'm without a proper guitar for a month when I should be working on my school's final project.

UPDATE: Turns out they had some staffing problems, so the delay is understandable.
