I don't have the artistic ability, but I thought it could be cool. It would have to be ultra-violent, maybe only done in black, white, and red. Soemthing like the old John Buscema Conan comics that were only in black and white. Maybe a panel per lyric line or riff or something. I thought FoM and SPD would lend themselves pretty well to this.

I also appreciate that some people will think that this is the stupidest idea ever. Okay.

I'm not a comic fan or anything. I have maybe 3 from when I was a kid that are worthless but I've held onto for some unknown reason...this includes the comic book version of the movie "Krull"... very weird thing to own. Pretty terrible, too.

I just was listening to Still Life, reading the lyrics, and imagining all kinds of images.

What do you think? Anyone got the artistic chops to give it a try?

That sounds like an awesome idea, or if not a whole comic book then just a picture per song or something. I personally would love it if say they created a tab book for Still Life - I do love your tabs Wankerness but there is just something aboot having a tab book also - with before each song have a piece of artwork or something.

But yeah that is an awesome idea, and no I am waffer at artwork so I won't embarrass myself, Opeth, or anyone else with an attempt, lol.

That'd be a brilliant idea imo. I think it'd have to be very detailed so the single picture for each song wouldn't be good imo. It'd have to been really in depth. Maybe Travis could have a try seeing as he did the cover! :P

That is not a bad idea....

Yes it is. The images in everyones heads are much better than being shown that this is the image ...if you get what I mean. I like thinking about the story in my head instead of being shown what it looks like

That is, of course, the danger. It would be cool if it were rather abstract (as the lyrics are to a degree). I've just always enjoyed artistic re-interpretations. Paintings of poems, plays about paintings, songs about novels, and so on. The re-interpretation doesn't destroy the original IMO. Does a bad movie version of a book weaken the actual book? I don't think so. I think they remain separate entities.

The trouble is, I suppose, when you feel like you can't get your image of the original piece back without seeing the re-interpretation. That's fairly valid, I guess. But I can keep the two separate. I have a pretty good imagination.

Edit: Of course the version in your head is better. It always is! But it doesn't mean someone can't try to show you their interpretation. Does talking about what you thought a book was about change the way you view the book? Or song?

Imagine seeing Still Life, in graphic novel format, drawn by Steve Dillon. Whew.

First reaction - Orgasm

Once I had a chance to think it over... Steve Dillon's great with gore, not love stories. I say boo.

I've always imagined how it would look animated. I say, put Opeth and an orchestra on stage with a big screen (either right behind or right in front of them) and play a black and white animated video of the story line.

I think a short film would be more interesting. Give it a dark and cold atmostphere, shorten it to 30-60 minutes, and make the plot slightly more intricate.

I think the sort of approach pink floyd had with the wall would be better. The film has the songs playing in the background.. and the images display what is being described by the lyrics. That sort of thing would be cool.
