For me, the underrated stuff includes Nevermore, Evergrey, Heavenly, Luca Turilli's Dreamquest (Interesting experiment) Old Sepultura (Thrash gods for their first 5 albums), Communic, Outworld (only released one album though), etc. Excluding this messageboard, where these bands may get recognition, I do not think other sites fully appreciate them.

And as far as 'real life' is concerned, even popular metal bands like Opeth, Blind Guardian, Pain of Salvation, Symphony X, etc. are underrated...'cause my friends are not into metal (Except for the 'greatest metal band eva'...Metallica).
