Groove Metal

I like Pantera, Exhorder and Soulfly. Other than those, I havent really listened to any.

I feel that a lot of sub genres within heavy metal are necessary, 'groove metal' however, is not one of them.

Just one man's opinion.

I think Groove Metal was a bit important in the 90's with the surge of Grunge, more rap/hip hop, and alternative rock bands, it was a good thing to have Groove Metal, because it was true metal at the time and it was relatively new.
