Guess the Amp (no TS)

Okay, guys. Here are the reamps that Lasse just did for me at the start of this thread.

I'll put a disclaimer here again that neither he nor I fully endorse the quality of these DIs. The playing was very rushed, sloppy and soft mostly due to time constraints a some other factors. It is just an EP after all! So if you take issue with the tone, perhaps look to the source before criticizing Lasse :)

These are all raw apart from a HP at 80hz and LP at 11kHz. I tried to match the volumes as well as I could by memory.

So here it is:

However, since you called out my hearing, I couldn't resist making this test - this clip is just the first part of the riff, with an EQ plugin automated to toggle between a 3dB cut with a .2 dB Q at 6k, and then bypassed. I mean, again, as I said, you make it sound great in the mix in the end, and maybe I am worrying too much, but at least I'm not mental about the frequency! :D

I could be that the 6K fizz is due to bad AD/DA converters ie, digital aliasing. Wouldn't that be the biggest bummer in your life? Selling of perfectly good gear because of a cheap AD/DA issue. :D

I know this problem, since I've been there. But I didn't sell anything before I found out. ;)

Well rather than again launching into my explanation as to why it's not the guitar/pickups (seeing as how Lasse and I use totally different ones, I re-amped other peoples tracks through my amp and heard the fizz, it's there in the impulses I created from the power amp, I hear it in the room so it's not the mic position and it's a different frequency than what is heightened/diminished by going closer to/farther from the cap anyway, etc.), I'll just say that I'll change my mind when I hear a clip of a 2 ch. Dual through a Recto cab that has a sufficient amount of gain for my tastes but doesn't have that fizz - many other amps can, the 2 ch. Dual can't IME, dunno why it's so hard for some people to believe! ;)

And Jocke, I'm sorry, I don't quite understand how it could be the A/D converters, because a) all tones would sound like that coming through them (they don't), and b) the converters in my Onyx 400F may not be Benchmark quality, but they're still AKM and capable of going up to 192k, so they're not slouches either!

Oh, and of course, I've had my DI's re-amped through other people's setups (perhaps you've heard of some DI's I made of a certain KSE cover of an old metal tune? It's surfaced here once or twice I think :heh: ), and the fizz isn't there, at least not as prominently. But again, show me a clip of a 2 ch. Dual through a Recto cab with sufficient saturation for my tastes that doesn't have the fizz (and no, it's not the amount of gain either, because other amps can have the same degree of saturation without that amount of fizz) and then maybe I'll understand why everyone is doubting me on this! :loco: And no, it's not the cab either, because surely I don't need to convince anyone how awesome the Recto cab is.

Sorry about this Lasse, I think I've finally gotten it all out there! :D
