I don't believe in "fairness" and I certainly don't believe that a privately operated website is a place to enforce it. A private community can police itself any way it sees fit, fair or not. If the rules are inconsistent or give special treaatment to some people, that's life. Users of this forum are consumers of the service being offered, and have the consumer privilege of taking their business elsewhere if they dislike the product.
The success of this forum seems to be thanks to the generally loose atmosphere and the lack of much, if any moderation. People are free to post whatever random, stupid, annoying, or NSFW crap that they think others here will appreciate. If you fail to play nice with the established community and get banned for posting something that a more popular board member could get away with, boo fucking hoo.

I dont know, but I have a feeling that these pictures of eating dead babies were all fake, and the people that posted them weren't previously arreasted for murder or canabalism... where as LRD really was a creepy bastard who was doing something illegal and against the rules of the forum.
Posting pictures of somethign violent that was made in photoshop is one thing, but posting pornography in a "public" place is against the law, and against the forum rules.

It wasn't an analogy. Ultimatemetal.com is a for-profit operation. The business model is thus:
Band X pays UM money to host a forum freely usable by fans of Band X. If UM provides a service that is appealing to a large number of fans of Band X, and helps attract new fans, then Band X is getting good value for its money. Band X will pay UM more money to continue hosting the forum. UM presumably charges more for high traffic forums than for small forums, so they make money as the community grows. If the service UM provides is not appealing to fans of Band X, then Band X has little incentive to continue paying UM for its services.
Capitalism has a sort of Darwinian beauty to it, don't you think?
