In Guitar Chapter at the end of the solo midway through Out Of The Ashes, a friend of mine noticed a rather strange technique - Mike puts his hand over the top of the fretboard at about the 3rd fret and seems to play a harmonic on the A or bass E string.
Does anyone know what sort of harmonic this is, and how he gets it so high from an apparently low string?

Yes! I've wondered what he's doing too. After he gets the harmonic he dives with the trem bar.

the only conclusion we could draw was that he was using his magical powers to bend the string far beyond mortal comprehension

I'm pretty sure he's hitting the G string and diving. It's probably just real hard to tell with the video. If they ever re-release on DVD then we'll be able to tell for sure.
The left hand over the top move is funny though. Reminds me of Michael Angelo.

Yeah, after watching it very closely...his hand does cover all of the strings. And it kind of looks like he shakes the trem bar to get the strings vibrating, then he frets the harmonic and dives.

And a harmonic that high is plausible if you use the 2nd fret. Romeo's mighty squeal has puzzled me for a while - thanks guys!

He does it a lot live, btw. It's kickass.
