These are 2 questions for the music theory knowledgeable people:

Why every string is tuned to the 3rd note higher than the string right above it, but the 2nd string is tuned to the 2nd note higher than the 3rd string?

Why if C is the first note it is not called A to make things easier?

In the other notation they use:
Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si
But the letter
notation uses:
C D E F G A B

Why not making A the fist note?

Dude (someone correct me if I'm wrong here!) I believe "they" start at C due to some ancient classical music theory of Concert Pitch, which is considered to be the frequency of middle 'C'... Apart from anything else, the key of C Major/ A minor has no sharps or flats, hence the scale of notes starting there.... :erk:

The Do re Mi thing has something to do with relating a note to a sound I believe... C being Do etc in a MAJOR scale.... Does that make sense? Am I confusing you as much as I've just confused myself!!??

(I'll go back to sleep now)

huh.......I've learned reading notes when I was a little kid but I never questioned the scale starting with C.
Interesting question.

I know nothing about tuning guitars though.

Maybe you should put your questions somewhere in the musicians forum.
