guitar wars

it's just my opinion of Hendrix... I don't like his style, doesn't have anything to do with playing fast. Yngwie and Zakk Wylde can play fast, but I don't like their playing either.

I respect these Hendrix dislikes, it's just when retards start saying he is crap, when obviously they can't get anywhere near to how good he was.

I hate it when people think that the best guitarists have to play blazingly fast solos and shit. Hendrix was known as one of the best song writers and could show emotion in his playing better than nearly anyone. Anyone who practises 3 hours a day can learn to play scales and shit really fast, but you cant be taught to play with such feeling as he did. He loved music probably more than anyone ever has.

Favourite guitarists, Randy Rhoads, Laiho, Jani from Sonata (cant spell his last name :p), Dimebag Darrel, Van Halen, Eric Clapton.

Some really great guitarists are people like Vai, Satriana, Paul Gilbert, Rusty Cooly, Micheal Angelo Batio (I dont like his music, but damn can he play fast), Herman Li, and Yngwie

Hell yeah, I agree. Which is one of the reasons why Kirk Hammet is my favorite guitarist. I like the feel of his solos, especially his older ones. I'm not saying he's the most technically proficient guitarist, but his solos are great to listen to IMO. Also...he plays very well live with decent stage presence.

Hendrix was a good guitar player, i don't know how you can say he sucks. I would pick him over Rusty or Angelo or Yngwie anyday because all they care about is playing fast and acting like dicks.

No... I agree that you say about angelo or rusty to a certain level, but yngwie is a true master and a break though artist. He has written some of the best guitar pieces of all time, and most people who talk trash about him are simply jealous. Sure he is a total dick, but he is a fucking legend on guitar.

When i think of kirk hammet I think of sloppy... He really needs so metronome work... badly!

Jason Becker, Randy Rhoads,Zakk Wylde, and Yngwie Malmsteen
These guys are mostly on different wavelengths. But thier playing is so reconizable.
Its not how fast a person is. Its about how much heart they put into thier playing. End of story

In my opinion, Yngwie hasn't done anything special, he certainly hasn't influenced my guitar playing one bit. Wylde doesn't do anything amazing but he plays from the heart and a lot of people don't recognise that.

Theres alot of guitarists out there that are amazing. And even some people who are unknown beat the hell out of some of the Greats.

Sure, Gilbert, Rhoads, Malmsteen and Satriani are great, but if you look low, you can find some unbelievable talent.

such as in Australia. I would take guitarists like Lord Tim (LORD, ex-Dungeon) and Hanny Mohamed (Black Majesty) over alot of the greats like those above.

hmm yes but i think its more the guitarists than the bands.
if you have a band you can make demos and send them in.
but what to do as a single guitarist?
getting in a descent band is not easy i tell you

Malmsteen is certainly not the most skilled guitarist in metal these days, but I think he was from '84 to about '86.

But the most skilled guitarists in metal I'd say are Vai, Romeo, Friedman, and MacAlpine (my second favorite guitarist after Malmsteen). And Buckethead, Batio, and Cooley are obviously extremely skilled as well, but I'm not interested in their music.

Honestly, I haven't heard much of Gilbert besides the Street Lethal album from Racer X. It was alright, but I wasn't in awe of his playing. He must have some other albums that are really amazing.

The best guitar virtuoso album for me is still Malmsteen's debut.

I'm probably gonna catch a whole lotta shit for my picks, but what the hell:
(No particular order)

1. Reb Beach (Great player. Taps like a madman)
2. C.C. DeVille (Yeah, I said it. Who cares, he plays well)
3. Billy Gibbons (No one plays boogie guitar like him)
4. George Lynch (No one ever sites this guy)
5. Jake E. Lee (No person my age thinks of this guy)
6. Adrian Vandenberg (Played in Whitesnake. He's awesome)
7. Ace Frehley (Who doesn't like KISS?)
8. Warren DeMartini (From Ratt. Great at two step bends)
9. Tracii Guns (Founded GNR if ya didn't know)
10. Jeff Healey (Blind as a bat and outplays anyone)
