Has any one lost respect for Nile, Behemoth, Amon Amarth etc?!?

Better music to be heard by musicians who aren't whoring themselves to the Thor's Hot Topic Hammer crowd. If their rise in popularity was based solely on their recordings and not their mass market appeal, I'd hold no grievances. Styrofoam Viking Hats, Bobbleheads, Faggot Tours w/ Himsa, MTV videos of 40 yr old men larping in fields as Krigloch tallys mana points, easy on the ear riffs constructed with Johnny Slanthair in mind. It's just too fucking much for me to swallow.

"I am Viking, please visit our merch stand for an AA keychain!"

Do the bobbleheads move on their own when you crank up "Blackbirds"?!? As the first post in this thread pointed out, I'm really not attacking the music of these bands, just their image which has turned in to a gimmick and lacks all sincerity. I'm supposed to buy that these techno vikings fish in Nordic waters in their spare time, as my hand toggles through their interviews on top of my Amon Amarth mousepad?!?

Oy Vey!

Nile: "We're playing Ozzfest because we want to shock the masses. They'll say "oh they are the br00tal"

It's all so cheap, like a pretty girl who ends up an old maid, selling her gash in her advanced years before her stock plummets.

Those who move away from the crowd, are merely the mirror image of those who follow it. Both groups base their opinions on the reaction of the crowd, rather than their own thoughts.

I could care less if Johan was on the cover of Tiger Beat. To disparage a band because of their image or how they're marketed, is no different than following a band for those same reasons. The complexity of Amon Amarth's riffing hasn't changed. The subject matter of their lyrics hasn't changed. They haven't added clean vocals or female vocals to their songs. It seems the primary criticism leveled here surrounds what's available at their merch stand. And that reason seems as sound as a 13 year old girl buying a Backstreet Boys record because she loves the way they dance.

There's two types of bands.

A) Those in it for the love of music
B) Those in it for the love of money

I refuse to pad the pockets of category B.

Show some dignity to your artwork, rather than whoring it out for every dime your Jewish hands can swindle.

First off, there's a difference between "making money" and "being in it for the money". And I think you're kidding yourself if you think you can always tell the difference. And even if you could, so what? A great disc, is a great disc, regardless of the motivation behind it. Regardless, your contention is that Amon Amarth wallowed in a relative obscurity for nearly 15 years for the love of money? Because they knew, some day, if Johan got fat enough and his beard grew scraggly enough, and if they continued to sing about Norse mythology, MTV would eventually bring back the Headbanger's Ball and start playing their videos? That's your arguement?

Who gives a rat's ass about artwork?

Sometimes I think your worst fear (after an Obama presidency) is that some 16 year old mall rat in a Trivium t-shirt, may own one CD that you also own.

I'm sure Amoney Amarth didn't start playing with gold bullion in mind. Nevertheless, they have succumbed to label puppetry and are now nothing more than a bad parody.
