Has any one lost respect for Nile, Behemoth, Amon Amarth etc?!?

Those who move away from the crowd, are merely the mirror image of those who follow it. Both groups base their opinions on the reaction of the crowd, rather than their own thoughts.

I could care less if Johan was on the cover of Tiger Beat. To disparage a band because of their image or how they're marketed, is no different than following a band for those same reasons. The complexity of Amon Amarth's riffing hasn't changed. The subject matter of their lyrics hasn't changed. They haven't added clean vocals or female vocals to their songs. It seems the primary criticism leveled here surrounds what's available at their merch stand. And that reason seems as sound as a 13 year old girl buying a Backstreet Boys record because she loves the way they dance.

Zod

I agree, but it doesn't change the fact that i've listened to Oden on his Side about 4 times in its entirety and I listen to that Rune to my Memory song a few more and thats about that. Otherwise its still Versus the World/Old Stuff.

What's next, Arghoslent cotton balls?!?

I missed this when I read through this thread the last few times. So a belated:

Speaking of Arghoslent, what the hell is the deal with their sudden internet popularity? I thought everyone was against them because of their "racism"?

Now I'm seeing Arghoslent mentioned everywhere. I wonder how they feel about it...

Also, I dig this new AA album. Sure, it's not so "kvlt and tr00", but it's pretty catchy album. Not top 10 material, but rocking none the less.

whats it called? /lazy

While I shat on their latest release and live show, I would by lying if I said that I wasn't somewhat intrigued by their upcoming.

due on September 30 via Metal Blade Records.

"Twilight of the Thunder God" was recorded at Fascination Street Studio in Örebro, Sweden and features "10 tracks of AMON AMARTH's menacing battle metal replete with swarming riffs and searing percussion that provides a monolithic backdrop for vocalist Johan Hegg's wracked howls and lyrics rife with Nordic mythology," according to a press release. Known for seamlessly combining the key attributes of death, black and power metal to create "fantasy-fueled sonic mayhem," AMON AMARTH (Elven-speak for “mountain of doom” in Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings") has eclipsed its previous efforts with "Twilight of the Thunder God", creating an album that places the band amongst metal's elite.

"Twilight of the Thunder God" features several high-profile guest appearances including ENTOMBED singer L.G. Petrov (on "Guardians of Asgaard"), CHILDREN OF BODOM guitarist Roope Latvala (who shreds a fierce solo on the track "Twilight of the Thunder God") and Finnish cello metal band APOCALYPTICA (a guest appearance on "Live For The Kill").

"Twilight of the Thunder God" track listing:
01. Twilight of the Thunder God
02. Free Will Sacrifice
03. Guardians of Asgaard
04. Where is Your God?
05. Varyags of Miklagaard
06. Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags
07. No Fear for the Setting Sun
08. The Hero
09. Live for the Kill
10. Embrace of the Endless Ocean

A limited edition 3 disc bonus dvd/cd set will be gracing Euro shores.

Put this down as a dled and see.

In the same thread, on the same page (if you have proper viewing settings, at least)
New record in lazy, congrats! :goofy:

amon amarth is killer and if you see them as anything other than death metal manowar you're completely missing the point

so yes saying "here's 100 stupid finnish demo bands that are better than amon amarth" may well be true (not to mention it undoubtedly proves you've been spending way too much time on metal-archives, ebay and rapidshare looking for shit that's half as good as "left hand path" but improves your e-penis way more) but it's like saying "iron maiden is better than manowar" -- a completely pointless statement

Who the fuck cares if there's a commercial intent behind the band's marketing? What matters is that there's no commercial intent behind the song writing. A difficult concept to grasp, I know, but I'm sure most of you can do it.

I'm sure Amoney Amarth didn't start playing with gold bullion in mind. Nevertheless, they have succumbed to label puppetry and are now nothing more than a bad parody.
Again, this isn't a criticism of the music. The fact that their label is doing what a label is suppose to do, and promoting the band, isn't a bad thing. Most musicians want people to hear their music (with the exception of handful of dorky Black Metal musicians, who claim to sleep in the woods, in a coffin, but in actuality sleep in their parent's basement, even though they're now 34 years old, and still have to beg Mom and Dad for money so they can buy corpse paint).

I loved With Oden on Our Side. Great disc. I just heard the new one yesterday at the gym. At first listen, not as good as Oden, but still a good disc.

Hey Jerry... you really need to meet a nice black girl, fall in love, and start going to Bullet for my Valentine shows. I think you'd be a much happier person.:heh:

Thanks Feetbalm, With my settings its on page 3, and yeah, new records in lazy, Work to do... (avoid). Will check out the album at some point and comment. HOpefully its better than WOooS

general zod is one of those people who call albums "discs"

i don't know why but this has always annoyed me

hellrockers latest disc is a great disc but this newdisc is not as good as their old disc disc disc disc

The band isn't making any extra money on these special editions, that is for sure. It's just a promotion tool, "look at this cool edition". I am pretty sure not even the label makes more money on these limited items, since the production cost is probably pretty high.

I thought I was the only person in the world that was annoyed by that. Nothing against Zod, of course. His posts are almost always excellent.
