Heathen Crusade; Nominations for the band sponsered by RC

dude. no way. Eld, Vikingligr, Monumnesion, Ruun, and Mardraum are all better than anything that pompous fag Satyr has ever even thought of. IMO of course.

I saw an outstanding review for the new TURISAS in Terrorizer today. "The Varangian Way" scored a 9/10 with a great write up. I've never heard anything from these guys.

Well the new one is better than Battle Metal, which only has one or two good tracks (the title track is brilliant!), but it's not outstanding or anything...

HOWEVER, these guys are totally meant to be seen live. I caught them in the tent at Wacken on Saturday and it was definitely the most entertaining set of the whole weekend. Everybody dancing and jumping around, the band really know how to work their audience. Loads of fun, and seems like the sort of band who would work well at an HC (saying that without ever having been to one, obviously).

Can't say I'm a fan of either band. Haven't really given either much of a chance. I was simply shocked by how many people were into them at Wacken.

Zod
Same here, but Wacken largely draws that kind of crowd I'm afraid. There are few things in music I dislike more than happycrap shitfolk bands, especially after 26 hours in a buss populated by their fans. Good thing us hellbangers have the koolness ability +3 so we can override their shit when it gets too bad.

I saw Tyr at this year's Inferno kickoff party, and I really didn't know what to believe... It certainly wasn't good, that's for bloody sure, yet, my dance foot couldn't seem to stop tapping. It was quite disturbing... :erk:

Well, that makes no sense! Mardraum is a goddamn stretch, LOL.

That aside, not sure what the issue is with Satyr. Why, does he have some agenda outside of his music or something? I know nothing about the man but the first 3 Satyricon albums are carved in stone at this point.

Dark Medieval Times is probably up there for me alongside "Hymen Lysol" and "Nighttime Eclair". That's like the holy trinitiy of 2nd wave awesomeness.

Have you ever read an interview with the guy? He is such an egotistical idiot. He always says Satyricon has to lead the way in current black metal, and how Now Diabolical, and Rebel Extravaganza were some of the best black metal albums ever released. He also downplays current black metal bands (sure, a lot of it sucks, but c'mon), but Satyricon is somehow still relevant. He also apparently tries to legitimize his major label signings about how he's trying bring black metal to the mainstream, etc.....

The dude apparently doesn't realize his music sucks.

As far as the first three, I cant fully get into them. They're good, but hardly truly mind blowing like the cream of the crop from those years: Darkthrone, Emperor, Immortal, etc.

Huh. I did not know any of that. No, I don't really read interviews etc (at least, not anymore). I just listen to the music at face value and get on with my day.

Yeah, well Satyr aside, I think those first 3 Satyricon albums are right up there ESPECIALLY DMT. Jesus, it's so pagan-tastic. I'm sure it came out at a time when they were truly underground and not releasing shit like Volcano so his head wasn't up his ass.

And look, even Dimmu Borgir have some great early releases where you can really hear how genuine their sound was. Same with Satyricon. DMT is filled with acoustic passages and a ton of atmosphere, really carving the blueprint for 10000 pagan bands to follow. Furthermore, it's not all blast beat blarghu which I really detest.

"As far as Scandinavia goes, everything went okay; the record debuted at number two in the national carts, the single "Fuel for Hatred" got a lot of airplay and its video by world-famous director Jonas Akerlund was on heavy rotation on national TV"

"We actually turned down Ozzfest 2006, mostly because of the money..."

"THere was something organic and real about Rebel Extravaganza that black metal desperatley needed back then"

it goes on and on. fuck that guy. in the same interview, he says other BM bands are missing the point. oh the irony....

as far as blast beat blarghu, i dont mind it, but it has to be done well. SEE: Immortal

EDIT: JayK, you need early Samael from the sound of it

Huh, well since nobody else is going to Satyricon's defence then I say knock them on the head for HC 3.

Let's save HC some money and get it back to one day only, and use the Friday night line up I proposed: D666 & Primordial double headliner.
