Heaviest Opeth Song

The first heavy part of "When". And the last two verses of "Dirge for novembre". The en of "karma" maybe. The pretty mayhem shit after the acoustic part on demon of the fall, and the "mayhemic" part "The drapery falls".

April Ethereal is definitely up there. Plus you can't forget to mention The Amen Corner. Just listen to that damn intro!

:tickled:

The intro to the amen corner GROOVES, it's not very heavy at all. Blackwater Park has got some heaviness I'd say, but Demon of the Fall is the heaviest, partly because of that drum fill right before the verse! That is the coolest drum fill in the history of music (right above that one in "War Ensemble" where it sounds like the kit is being cut into pieces and beaten)! The verse on that song sounds like the attack of the star destroyers, and the demon of the fall riff is probably one of the most intense things I've ever heard. Songs like "Wreath" don't come ANYWHERE CLOSE, they just sound weird and sinuous...the production's wayyyy too trebly for any amount of heaviness to creep in. The chorus to "Serenity Painted Death" is sort of heavy too, I guess...but it's more grinding. I think just about every example of real heaviness they've ever done is on MAYH and then there are a few stray ones on Blackwater Park (like parts of the title track after the 5 minute mark and a couple parts of the funeral portrait). I guess that first riff after the big majestic intro to blackwater park is pretty heavy...it sounds like some kind of killer jungle attack!
