it's not that the music is bad...it jsut doesn't appeal to me...what i think of prog of rather what i want is something heavy..yet diverse and transcending and not the typical pyrotechnics and falsettos

I tried listening to POS once at a record store, and quite frankly they reminded me of Creed (vocally).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-whiny music, I love Kate Bush and she's a whiner, but she's also a woman and she's not playing metal.

Singing about your own infidelity, the miscarriage of your child, and the suicide of someone you knew (some of the issues on PoS' latest album) is fake and not real music?

I can see how people don't like the singing from the Remedy disc because he did carry the vocals to the high end but their earlier stuff sounds different much like Blackwater Park compaired to Morningrise.

Agreed. I find POS to be among the least instrumentally self-indulgent and pretentious prog bands out there, and also among the most emotionally staggering.

No mention of King Crimson here? They were pretty Sabbathy back in the 70s... check out Lark's Tongue in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, and Red. Heavy and dark music. Robert Fripp = yay!
The POS vocalist is IMO the best vocalist in metal, better than Maynard. POS are an aquired taste, I downloaded some of their stuff and didn't like it at first but after a few listens I couldn't believe how amazing this band is. By the way if your putting POS in the same category of music to dream Theater you haven't listened to POS because they sound NOTHING alike. As for sounding like Creed vocals WTF are you talking about.

It took me a LONG time to begin to appreciate Dream Theater. For years, I hated their music and agreed with Satori in that it really tended to be "musical masturbation". However, Progmetalfan & a few others got me into them with their last two releases. For the first time, they're now actually writing SONGS instead of just attempting to cram 45,873,904 notes into a ten-minute piece of music.
Now, with that being said, I must say that James Labrie's voice is the ONE thing that truly holds them back & keeps them from ascending to the top of the metal throne. His voice is simply putrid. It's so cheesy it's sickening. I just dont understand why such a talented band would enlist such a wanker as this guy?!??!?! Heck, I'da MUCH rather hear death vocals, which, IMO, is NOT even 'singing' at all.
Another example of a GREAT band that, due to the horrendous vocals it employs, SUCKS is "Fates Warning". Ray Alder is just attrocious. What do these prog bands find in these guys?!?!?!?!?
