hello i am gay and i like gothenburg, plz give recommendations

Oh, and I liked the ranting version of this post better! Why the edit?

I thought it was too soon to derail the thread. :tickled:

Perhaps it's worthy of another thread where we highlight the similarities between genres (where melodic death borders power metal which in turn borders speed/thrash). There is an abundance of similarities between bands like Gamma Ray and Annihilator or Megadeth, for example.

Skyfire - Timeless Departure

very layered and melodic. some of the keyboards border on cheese (trumpets in the intro, track 2), but there are so many leads everywhere its ok. id say they fit skyrefuge/neil's definition of mdm with their constant meandering lead lines.

No I was just ranting about how close some genres are together in style, and people ultimately choose what they want based only on vocals. Nothing I haven't said before. :)

He actually *is* the moderator. :)

Yeah, which is what made my joke so unbelievably hilarious that it sailed straight past the humor-detection circuitry of most mere mortals.

Oh, and since I know you were waiting to hear my "pure-MDM" verdict on those songs you posted, neither band makes the cut. Duskfall is a bit too thrashy, and Grievance put too much on the keyboards. Both sound pretty good though. I should really check out that Duskfall album, since I've heard it mentioned lots.

Sigh....I hate being a mere mortal sometimes.

Bah.... I just like recommending good stuff, as long as it's not too far off the highway of a particular genre. I suppose the Grievance is pretty far off, but since it was produced by the IF guys, it has a connection that loops it back around to one of the highway exits.

Anyway, glad you dig 'em. :kickass:

I dont think so. Their last album was pretty good, iwish they had made more tracks like DEVIATE FROM THE FORM , which was only added as a bonus track but I thought it was the best track on the album. Oh well.

That was a fantastic album. The first one was pretty good too.

This is coming from someone who doesn't really care for melodeath

Some other really good pure-MDM albums include:

Mortum - The Druid Ceremony
Summer Dying - One Last Taste of Temptation
Thirdmoon - Bloodforsaken
Nocturnal Winds - Everlasting Fall
Exhumation - Dance Across the Past (better than any Nightrage!)

...I was surprised to suddenly find a band like Searing Meadow out there that actually got me excited about MDM again, and I'm thinking there must be more like that.

I have a Searing Meadow promo laying about in a box somewhere. I'm 100% certain I threw it into a heap when I was drowning in 'MDM' promos. Now that I've given the genre a couple of years to breathe, I'll go dust of the promo.

Never heard the others in your list but I'll check them out.
