I was browsing through some old emails when i found i had an old IK multimedia multibox serial lying around that i'd never redeemed

I can choose any one of the tRacks singles, i've listed the ones i don't already have below:
very tempted, i don't have a 1176 sim and it seems like i really should

the LA2A is a classic, but i'm less familiar with the sound

Pultec sim, 'nuff said. I have the Nomad factory british NEQ for
character eq but this would be a different character

Not sure why i'd go for this, unless someone tells me it's absolute
magic. I guess i don't have any opto sims

Boring, generic. Doesn't really excite me

I don't have a linear phase eq. Then again, do i really need one?

Don't see it as an essential

Is it really that much better than GClip?

I'll be giving all the demos a try, but i was wondering if people with more experience with either these plugins or the hardware they're based on could advise as to which would serve me best

i would go the 1176. although i have never tried that companys take on it. best bet is, as you said, demo them and see what YOU see yourself using the most. everyone has their own way of mixing so another persons opinion might be totally irrelevant to you.

If you don't have and 1176 plug then I would say that's easily the way to go. I use 1176's all over my mixes. Vocals, bass, parallel compression on drums, kicks, snares, room mic's. Out of all those plugs I bet the 1176 is what you'd use more often than anything else.
