Help with Black Metal...

Really? That first line, when he screams out "Farewell my brother..." justs blows me away.

Hmm, could be. Maybe I jus need to give it a few more listens. But the main riff just really irked me...

And let me know what you think!

I've got "Monumension". When I bought it, I bought it along with 10 other CDs. For some reason, it found its way to the bottom of the pile. I need to go back and spend some quality time with it.

I agree with Nad, more bands should follow the path that Enslaved is on.

Second part: quoted for truth. While I don't find myself listening to Monumension as often as the last two, it's still mandatory for any Enslaved fan, and get Mardraum next as was the first to openly embrace prog influences and still has plenty of BM left.
NAD: Put on Imaginary Sonicscape in a drunken haze, you'll love it. Has anyone heard the new Sigh yet?

I'm listening to Hate Forest - Battlefields for the first time and it's kicking me straight in the balls. I mean holy HELL.

yeah, Monumension is the best of the prog-Enslaved. Isa and Below the Lights are quite sorta wank.

I thought Naglfar's Diabolical was shit, but yeah....my pals.

Some generally nice melodic black metal, but not in the Ensiferum, Finntroll kinda way. REALLY EPIC, with some cool synth effects, catching choruses and great, technical riffing. Too polished for my liking, but if I remember correctly, you value good production.

wow this stuff is good! perfectly polished! heh :headbang:

Has anyone heard Naglfar's "Diabolical"? I saw it for $5.50. Is it worth owning?

Zod

Yep definately; as fotmbm said, it's their best (extremly closly followed by their first album Vittra which is less aggressive and more "epic")

Other great black metal: Watain, Deathspell Omega and Behemoth pre Pandemonic Incantations

Aye as well as YOU CALL FROM SHADOWS, YOU HAUNT ME THROUGH MY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, THE DEMONS' NIGHTSKY PROPHECY, MY SOUL IS THEE (THINE?)... HORN CROWNED MAJESTY

oh, and those bass lines at the start of Brimstone Gates are pure :kickass:

I'm totally digging the new Naglfar, especially the first song, "A Swarm of Plagues". That song fucking slays! Anyway, assuming that Naglfar qualifies as whatever passes for Black metal these days, who would you recommend that I check out, based on my love for "Pariah"? Thanks.

Zod

Agreed, but what do you think of the Ukranian Singing between songs? After a while that gets to be really painful. But Church Bells and drums played backwards make it all ok :headbang:

that album rules, the singing between songs truly seals the deal. that ending almost brings me to tears each time, so sad.

That singing almost reduces me to tears everytime.
But then I press skip.

I agree with nad. The folk songs really add an emotional element to it. Without them the album would seem lacking.

Battlefields is awesome, but I don't think Zod would enjoy it.

He might enjoy something like Diabolical Masquerade, though.
