I am all for being 'Metal" and all the stereotypes that go along with it. However, I also love a good ballad, power ballads, melodic songs or whatever we are calling it these days.

I was wondering if I could get some ideas from all of you on some killer melodic metal songs out of the prog/power genre. I have listed below a small sampling of what I am talking about.

Royal Hunt - Day is Dawning ( Bonus track from the Japanese Import)
Angra - Bleeding Heart
Symphony X - Candle Light Fantasia
Edguy - Spirit Will Remain
Labyrinth - Falling Rain
Vision Divine- Identities
Kamelot - Wander

I only ask that the vocals be clean with no death vox. Some of the bands above have more I know and I have them. So I don't need to know of anymore from the bands above.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions!!!!!!!!

Devin Townsend - Tiny Tears
Devin Townsend - Nobody's Here
Devin Townsend - Deep Peace
Devin Townsend - Sister
Pain Of Salvation - Second Love
Pain Of Salvation - Song For The Innocent
Pain Of Salvation - Ashes (from 12:5)
Pain Of Salvation - Pilgrim

There are a whole lot, too many to list.

As far as power metal goes, I'm not too fond of their ballads, but there's one that really stands out for me. Heart of Steel by Manowar, that song can have sooo many connotations depending on who you are.;)

I love a good ballad!! Here's some good power metal ones with a couple of prog

At Vance - Lost In Your Love
At Vance - Princess of the Night
At Vance - Shining Star
Avantasia - Anywhere
Circle II Circle - Lost
Dionysus - Don't Forget
Dionysus - Forever More
Freedom Call - Turn Back Time
Gamma Ray - Lake of Tears
Genius Rock Opera - To Be Free
Luca Turilli - Timeless Oceans
Nightwish - Sleeping Sun
Nostradameus - Without Your Love
Pain of Salvation - Second Love
Sonata Arctica - Draw Me
Stratovarius - Forever
Stratovarius - 4000 Rainy Nights
Stratovarius - Mother Gaia
Stratovarius - Keep the Flame
Stratovarius - What Can I Say

Stratovarius has many more good ones!

I have heard of just about all of these with the exception of Pain of Salvation. I can honestly say that I know nothing from this band. I will check it out.

Keep them coming....................................

Well, since they will be playing at this year's show, and I'm one of the co-sponsors, I guess I ought to pimp Stride a little. :loco:

"Travesty" off the Music Machine cd is my favorite song, and it might fit what you're looking for. It's definitely on the lighter side (more rock than metal) but check it out and see what you think. You can download it for free off Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006JBJA/qid=1120620127/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/102-1099506-1562565

(Then buy the cd anyway!)
:Smokin:

...and if any of you Stride-guys read this, you better make Travesty part of the set!!

Here's a couple off the top of my head:

Lana Lane: Alexandria - I was recently introduced to this amazing lady's music and voice. She's soothing, yet powerful and the music encompasses many spectrums. Well worth a listen, imho.

Silent Force: Spread Your Wings - Love this friggin' song. Just love it.

Blue Murder: She Knows - Not your typical Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Love song. For your more standard faire, take a listen to Out of Love.

Redemption: Sapphire - It's a love song wrapped within a fluid and constantly moving melodic barrage of genius. It doesn't get much better than this, as far as I'm concerned :D

Into Eternity: Buried In Oblivion - Just an awesome, awesome piece of music, not a ballad, per se, but gorgeous nonetheless.

Engine: Falling Star *sigh* I adore this song.

I'm sure I'll be adding more :) Good thread!

Dream Theater - Surrounded, Wait For Sleep, Voices, Anna Lee, The Spirit Carries On
Kamelot - A Sailorman's Hymn, Glory, Don't You Cry
Slayer - Raining Blood
Conception - Hold On
Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
Randy Rhoads - Dee
Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song
Iced Earth - Melancholy (Holy Martyr)
Shaaman - Fairy Tales
