High on Fire (another terrible Fidelman mix)

ok, you can discuss the bassdrum and the vocals but like PhilR said, its exactly the sound such kind of music needs. I don't think its sooooo bad.

Edit: their myspace profil says it all, influences: Celtic Frost, Slayer, Motorhead, St. Vitus, Old school real metal!

Any questions?

I expected a horrifying experience, and I do hate Death Magnetic and World Painted Blood, but honestly I think this production kinda fits the band. This kind of music isn't supposed to have a KSE/Attack Attack!/[insert any modern band with "polished" production here] kind of tone. The only thing that bothers me is the vocals being so up front and the kick being so damn snappy. But saying it sounds like it hasn't been mixed is just bullshit. But hey, that's just my opinion, and I do have a thing for dirty and rough tones, too.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the above post is based on the MySpace track, so I could be horribly wrong.

True about the modern recording aspect, but this band definitely demands huge sounding guitars and a nice, big, natural mix. They had it on the previous two, but the guitars on this one are thin and generally meh.

Ofcourse, but now A/B it with Death is this communion ;)

i didnt know what to think at first, i dont really listen to high on fire, but the kick stood out the most to be, i was like "really?" lol that shit is loud as fuck!

then i compared one of my mixes on myspace to be fair....i feel better about myself..

dude that kick makes me laugh!! muddy low end, its not a terrible, terrible mix, kick is super loud. but we should be hearing better from big projects like this.

its hard to judge mixes for me, because im always sympathetic to the process, who knows what shit that dude had to deal with to finish this project. i know some projects arent my best work, but i did make the best out the project. but i can laugh at the kick without feeling like a jerk.

This guy did Holywood?? I always though Tim Skold from KMFDM mixed that. Nothing will top Antichrist superstar but Holywood wasn't that bad at all. Very suprising...
