High on Fire (another terrible Fidelman mix)

26: to the rule that incompetent brown-nosers generally rise to the top of corporate structures - despite (or because of) their lack of skill. Not saying that Fidelman is a spineless asskisser, but his productions really make it hard to think that his successful career has to do with skill ...

Last album was soooo much better.. I hope for the next album they will record in analog studio like Electric Wizard did on their latest

I agree that As The Palaces Burn and Unearth III were great Raw mixes, and I agree that this sounds like preproduction ,complete unmixed shit.

it's not the stuff on their myspace, is it?
cause that doesn't sound anywhere near as bad as DM or Slayer.
I actually like the bassguitar......
well the kick....that's how a kick sounds when there's zero samples on it ;)

this is by no means a great mix, but it's not that terrible either.....at least not compared to death magnetic

I never liked raw mixes, with the only exception of Lasse's band, and it's not that raw IMO.
That's why I love Sneap's mixes, they're so polished and perfect that they're a pleasure to listen.
For me, this is just garbage, my mum would have mixed it better.

I rly like the mix... it's not a mix for this forum where almost everyone likes a polished sound. Muche better than DM!

I finally got a chance to listed to a proper version (download from my wife's Rhapsody account) of this and to me I'm sort of liking the overall sound. As Lasse points out above the kick is just the sound of a kick with no samples layering - it sounds natural and I like that. Since I've been one of the folks here that actually liked both the Metallica and Slayer albums he did - No I do not like the loudness, crushed to hell mastering, but I did like the guitar and drum tones as I thought it sounded raw as $%#^ and I liked that for those bands. Can every band benefit from it - hell no, but in these cases I think it sounds appropriate - I don't want all my metal polished to perfect piles of gloss and shine - where appropriate sure, but I want natural sounding drums, raw guitars and bass, and such on some albums, and I think for the three in question it has worked.

Once again, I don't expect anyone else to agree, I'm sure some can't see past super processed, ultra timed, cut to hell, metal, but of all the genres, metal should have variety. As always, your opinion is just as valid and your mileage may vary.

Why do you all think this sounds so bad?? It has a natural sound to it. THe bass was quite cool. The kick as Lasse wrote sound "not triggered". Not digging the vocals bot that is the singers fault. Sounds like a 80's trash album.

Although Metallica and Slayer sucked major balls. I liked the work he did on Cash Hurt.
