Home Recording Show # 32 featuring Metaltastic

Thanks for the comments guys.

as for me talking too quietly, a lot of times we record the show late at night so I have to be quiet...or my wife beats me! We did the show earlier last night and that was her interrupting. She'd start talking louder than me in the mic

Ryan's in LA and I'm in Toronto if you guys didn't know, we talk over skype and record own mics and one of us edits the show.

Quick home recording question guys:

I don't have a DI box, but I do have a M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB interface. Is that a good substitute for a DI as far as re-amping goes?

I just use the Fast Track pro to record into Garage band or Logic 8 and save the clean guitar signal as a .wav file. Would his setup result in considerably poorer re-amping results than if I was using a DI box?

Thanks!

Haha, that's great.

If you want some crocodile dundee vibe in the next show drop me a line.

well i thought Marcus sounded like Mr Garrison :D That was really good actually. Last nite i only listened to half of it as football and drinking got in my way, i have the vocal part to hear tonight which should be cool.

I didnt listen to the reamps in great detail yet, but in my brief listen i heard sweet FA difference, so its certain I do not care for brands of reamp box now. :)

P.S

What made the recording of the interview so clear? Was that just a good mic?

Audiogeekzine: where can I get that tiny, fold-out mp3 player that is on your site?

Marcus used a 57 into his Mackie interface. De-essing and compression after.
sounded better than my RE-20 into profire :erk:

It sounds like some of you guys missed the re-amper shootout the first time around.
The original shootout: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/equipment/465146-big-re-amper-shootout.html

You can compare with full quality.

HAHAHAHAHAhahaahahaha, you bitch Kev  It's not like I have the slightest southern accent though, so I don't quite know where you get that one ;) And I used my 57 with a pop filter, and Jon used his RE20, and we did it over Skype (oh baby :D) and at the time I was recording the input from my mic, and then sent him the wav file and he synced it up!

EDIT: Whoops, missed Jon's post, oh well

I just got this comment on the site regarding using a DI box in reverse for reamping.

As far as the DI vs. Reamp Box - Turning down the volume on your DAW track would not change the amount of distortion if you were using a DI box to reamp. The distortion is caused by the difference in impedance from input to output of the two electric signals connected to the DI box. To hear this, you could try reamping a sine wave to a "clean" amp sound because the sine wave is a pure tone, and theoretically you would hear no distortion, but you WILL hear it. It's sort of like cramming Play-Dough into a tube and not expecting it to come out tube-shaped.

Any thoughts? This is pretty much backing up the Cuniberti quote. Anyone wanna try it?

Nice podcast. I just looked in the list and downloaded a lot of the shows, great stuff :). For some reason I cannot download show 11 however :erk:. Anyone else have this problem?

I've managed to download it by just going back in the mainpage. On the list the link is incorrect: hrs.011.mp3 instead of 011.hrs.mp3

Ahh!
In that case it's certainly more understandable.
