Hooked?

So is he really as much of a dick as he comes off? That's not an asshole question, seriously curious if he's really a jackass or just opinionated?

He's a great guy...very opinionated, but honest and straightforward. He wouldn't be my friend if he was a jackass. Well, everyone is a jackass from time to time, right?

I never thought you were actually a douche...not everyone can worships at the church of Govan.

Killers is one of the greatest album covers and one of my favorite albums of all time...Maiden's absolute best!

Billy's starting a USA tour today supporting his new album Red, White and Screwed...it's a great throw back to his hardcore days...good album...good production...it's the last MOD album. I'll be getting together with him the end of this month.

 Worship at the church of hippy b.o. (j/k)

Soon as I saw the cover, I started reaching for my wallet, and then about 30 seconds later, the guy at Flipside played side 1 for me...

Cool to hear Milano is still out there doing stuff. I'll have to look for that cd, and check it out.

Thanks for the backup, now I dont feel like such a jackass but I just couldnt let it go.

No problem at all. I hate industry coined terms like that. Blech!
I think the "who came up with "heavy metal" first" is like the "what is prog" argument.... Lots of self proclaimed winners, none who are universally accepted. :)

I've just been really curious when it came into wide spred or common use. I've heard some people say Zep, Queen, Heep or Sabbath were always called "heavy metal" but I just dont remember it that way, even with Sabbath. Yet NWOBHM indicates it was a new wave, therefore there was an old wave, which in a way is true of the early bands I just dont remember the term in use in the early 70's. Maybe it was in England ? Steppenwolf using it was a direct reference to the sound of internal combustion not the music, in my interpretation anyhow. I suppose they may have been first to pen the term though. At the same time in late 67 Hendrix also wrote the opening line to Bold as Love - Anger he smiles, towering in shiny metalic purple armour - while he to was clearly not talking about music either, he did pretty much nail the description of metal. I suppose someone who collected any of the old music rags in the 70's could find the answer.

Oh, come on...have you ever really sniffed him?

I have though, sniffed Billy, and that's not always fun.:yuk:

I could never get much into classic rock.

Of course not dummy.......... theres no such fucking thing :heh:

Hey, I never liked UFO, Kiss, or the Scorpions much myself

Im personally very greatful to have been around, active and on top of the scene in my teens when hardrock was happening. So its a very important period to me, I will happily die with NO SHAME!

Never liked UFO or Scorpions??? Whoa...how well versed in those bands are you? The Scorps In Trance and Virgin Killer are amazing!!!! UFO's Force It, Lights Out, Obsession...these are hard rock staples!!!

Well I did include much in the statement. Its actually a cronological reason, same as your not liking LZ or anything prior to the late 70's, they came after my hardrock years when I was listening to fusion and more progressive rock stuff. I'm sure I would appreaciate more of it now than I did at that time as I can hear good music for what it is. My younger nearly brother(long story) was into UFO & VH alot but I was off into other things. Kiss, Foreigner, Foghat forget it, I still walk out of bars if the band starts playing that stuff, I say that because it just recently happened. UFO or the Scorpions would not have the same effect. BTW wasnt UFO and the Scorpions at the front end of the metal scene ? or still just hardrock ? Doesnt matter that period is just so confusing as far as terminology.

Scorpions is Hard Rock IMO! And I love the dudes, alot of these bands are making out of no where comebacks though, based on the popular game "guitar hero" 1,2, & 3! I've known about these bands for ever, and love them, but alof of the new kids are like "did you hear that new band 'the scorpions? or foghat?" makes me laugh but its true!

very true of alot of the old bands, but somehow I was thinking the Scorpions got some credit in the change toward metal, away from the more blues or RnR (pentatonic & 1/4/5) based hardrock. I'd need to listen to the early material again, its been soooo many years. Thats why I asked Shendankar (sp)

I'd call the Scorps early metal...I'd call UFO hard rock. The early Scorps with Uli Jon Roth were much more dark and moody at times...they took a turn for the worse at Taken By Force...although that does have the classic Sails of Charon...after that they started with goofy lyrics got pop metalish...that's why Roth left...he didn't like the direction.

Obsession is UFO with Schenker's most metal album.

cool, thanks man, I was wondering. sorry about the spelling, that one really throws me even when Im looking at it... lol

I was 10... and my life would be changed forever. Megadeth's "Countdown to Extinction" disc had just come out.... and I traded a weeks worth of school lunches for it. The horns have been in the air ever since.
