And when/if you get signed, demand that once your band has finished paying back the money for recording or whatever money the record label at first loan you, that your band gets all the rights to your songs. I don't know why the rights to sound recordings belong to the record label for good...in my opinion they should transfer to the artist once recording fees have been paid back...

Or...just read the fine print yourself? Hiring someone to read a piece of paper for you is a major waste of money. Also, the Recording companies don't get the rights to the songs the artists make, the people who write them do. The recording company makes the money by producing the CD and selling it.

This stuff would be in the contract you woud have signed already. You don't
"demand" somthing after you already signed on.

Also, since you live in Canada, try checking out alot of government grants that are offerd to musicians once you get serious enough. There is alot of money the government just gives out every year for people who are looking to record or tour.
