Just happened to be reading some old interviews that i transcribed aeons ago. Have a geez at these quotes from Bruce and Janick, taken from an interview by Costa on JJJ's 3 Hours Of Power back in March 99 just after Bruce and H rejoined the band. They talk about their intentions for the studio record that turns out to be Brave New World.
BRUCE " I think we have the chance again to really knock people back and go Jesus Christ! This is a heavy metal band, playing heavy metal music" and not playing apologetic pop music with electric guitars - but real fire breathing heavy metal stuff..."
JANICK "It's definitely gonna be heavier!"
I have no doubt about the enthusiam of the guys at the time, but i really dont think BNW is a heavy album. Kevin Shirley must take some blame their because there's nowhere near enough guitar sound for 3 guitars and not enough bottom end sound. But in terms of the songwriting, while there is some great stuff...it just aint that heavy.
