How much do you think album titles influence the way you listen to an album?

I think for me, it's more than I thought.

The reason I ask this is because Anathema's albums have such great names, yet each one really reflects a certain emotion.

I don´t realy care about the name of an album. For me the cover is more important. First time I saw the cover of Opeth´s "Still Life" I just thought that this album must be great. And I was right!:)

But of course after hearing an album I think about it´s name and the connection to the album´s concept (if there is one) or theme.

That's a damn good guestion, but tough to answer. I can say that "Blackwater Park" or "My Arms, Your Hearse" as a title had a special sound even before I heard the music. "Judgement" is cool - it's abstract and you can fill it with your own meaning. "Pentecost III" sounds really mystic and fits the lyrics. "Eternity" is the essence of the album. Yes, album titles are as important as everything.

You know, once I was really scared with the title - "Alternative 4" !!! I thought:"Oh shit ! Alternative! First Paradise Lost, then Tiamat and now ANATHEMA!". But the alBUM IS GREAT, A MASTERPIECE! Titles of Anathema are all great, as their music and lyrics!

Let's give another example:

Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments

Is this a good title? Does it reflect the music or the mood? Not really, but the album is still awesome.

Blackwater Park is the name of a rock group from the 70's. That's where Opeth got that name.

i think a good title does influence me
and the cover art too

i am searching someone who is able to do such a great cover for my new project: "A Tribute To Iced Earth"
