How does this look so far?

I'm currently working on my bands myspace layout so everything looks crackin' when I put the mixed demo up next month for everyone to hear (just shitty clips now). We're also getting ready for an album that should be 100% completed by December. Just trying to build a little buzz. Anyways, I've got the background and the banner up. What do you guys think so far? It looks good in firefox to me, but if you notice any problems let me know. This is really probably the best digital art I've done - it's based off of Magritte's "Not To Be Reproduced" or "The Forbidden Reproduction."

There's still a lot of work I have to do:

-Navigation bar/buttons
-Member pictures/links to personal myspace
-Section Headers
-MIX THE FUCKING DEMO
-Etc...

BTW, GIMP is much easier to work in than Photoshop.

Thanks dudes.

It looks fine, but as with a lot of edited MySpace pages it breaks in FireFox:

myspace.jpg

Images placed at the top of the page overlap the top of the player, which means you can't get to the controls or (more importantly) the volume.

It's fine in IE 8, Opera, Safari and Google Chrome though. It works in the FireFox 3.5 beta as well, just not the current release version.

I'd also say the background of the buttons ('Comment', 'View Pictures' etc.) don't look as good as the rest of the images - it looks like you might have resized a smaller image or something? Other than that it's all good though.

Thats weird about it breaking. It looks perfect in my version of firefox. Glad to know it works in the others. Yea, I'm going to redo the buttons. I was looking at them earlier and wasn't satisfied. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

hi

i like the background theme, the banner, and the overall concept!

things i dont like:

1) member photos,
there are too many different colors, different contrasts, everything looks different,
try to get "one look" to them all, best is you also do a kind of photoshooting (hasnt been 100% pro) but maybe you know someone from your friends who is a pro/semi-pro/amateur photograph who can make you some pictures
if you look at pifos_2 page, you will see what i mean:
http://www.myspace.com/forcedevolutionmusic

they are all in one "style" and the colors are setup the same

2) fonts
imho too many different font styles
i like the font in your banner (band logo , serif style, very much, i would suggest you to change all the small headers and band text into the same font.
but for the "add"... buttons, i would not change the font

3) background
there are some strange dark pixelstructes in the background, they disturb the look a bit.

4) text in the banner is hard to read, i would get rid of the effects and place it white on background, same font as logo above

otherwise, really great

cheers

Yea, the photos bug me. When I get back to the states we're doing a photoshoot but these are just placeholders for now I guess so I could see what the layout looked like. I don't even have a pic of the new drummer the guys picked up yet.

Also, thanks for pointing out the font thing. I didn't even notice it changed. *FACEPALM* As far as the background goes, it looks fine in my graphics programs but once I put it on myspace it looks like a turd so I dunno how to fix it.

Thanks for your response. I'll keep everything in mind whilst tweaking.

try to save it as a jpg instead of exporting as gif,
maybe it screws up because of the limited color palette (gif has only 255 or 256 colors available) or transparency setting of the gif format??

best wishes

I like it - think it looks good. Only thing I would comment on (which has already been mentioned) is the band member photos. Perhaps a photoshoot with all members in the same scenery or something of the like would be more effective.

What's your hometown?!

I would remove those pics as soon as possible! :saint: The bassist with the plants is not metal at all to say the least. The pics are much too bright. And I would personally not link my personal myspace into the "default profile pic space". I felt tricked. :p Taking pics in dark alleys with dirty hair and/or combed with gel or something all to the back with a trash can on fire looks much cooler then young people in the bright daylight. :)

December 2009 is a long way. Instead of saying "album in a veeeeeeery long time" I would say "in studio" or something.

The "top bars", one of them says "news", another "friends" and the other "comments"... the "news" and "comments" are green but not the same green it seems, and the "news" is blue. Dunno if that was wanted.

The artwork is nice

I like the background, and if you remove those mighty bright pics it will look dark but not as dark as many other bands, which I think is good.

The comment space is very nice.

Hey guys thank you tons for all of the tips/suggestions. I'll get to work on that right away. As far as the member pics go, those are the only ones I have to work with right now.... I might darken them up a bit and if it doesn't work, I'll take them down. I'll be bumping this thread again once I fix all of the little "errors."

Alright guys, I did a lot of fixes. In fact, the only thing I didn't touch was the member pics. HAHA. I did however book a photoshoot with a photographer for the band very soon. I just want to make sure everything is in working order and looking decent before the demo goes up (which will be after the new pics of course.) I guess let me know if this looks any better and also if it is functioning properly. Thanks so much again guys.
