How long is your commute to work?

I'm looking at houses about an hour away from my work. I'm not the commuter type (I currently live just over a mile from work with no freeways to battle), but the compromise is to have a house in the mountains which would rule heavily.

Looking for opinions/suggestions/warnings/etc. from other commuters.

Bike->Train->Bus. Takes me about 1h 50 minutes one way and costs about $450 a month. I can't wait to get a better job in my own town.

For school, 20 minute walk + 40 minute bus ride.

For work, 5 minute drive or 25 minute walk.

It's all good music listening time, so I don't mind that much.
And the nature on the walks is fun, even though it's contained inside a city.

I drive 30 minutes one way. Could be worse. I live outside of Louisville, so on my way to town there are some big horse farms and stuff. Easy drive.

I would die of boredom with two hours of commuting every day, but I know that's not harsh for socal commuting.
The only reason I'm considering this is because it's not typical SoCal commuting. Typical SoCal commuting involves an hour of bumper to bumper traffic and another hour of heavy traffic, each way. This drive would involve mostly mountain driving and open highway, only about 5 miles would involve a lot of traffic.

I have about a 30 minute ride, half of which is through back roads.

I'd say if you're making a long commute, make sure you have the right vechicle. Either a car that's good on gas, if it's a long highway drive, or a good 4x4 if you're going to be traversing long, winding, snow covered (during winter) mountanous roads.

The long commute also comes down to what type of person you are, and whether the commute is long because of distance, or long because of traffic.

These days...

Monday: Taxi/Train -> Airport -> Flight to Chicago....return Thursday night

When not on client site....

Get out of bed -> walk downstairs -> turn computer on (in fine binary seduction manner) :loco:

Car is AWD and I'm planning on getting a 4WD beater truck this winter, regardless of mountain move. I've only owned one 2WD vehicle before and I hated it (that aspect), but living in the mountains it's not even an option. Oh yeah and I have a company gas card so mileage isn't an issue. :tickled:

Yep. I can't do traffic. Distance isn't a big deal though.

@JayK: I hatenvy you, the walking downstairs part anyhow.

I'm starting to fantasize how cool it would be to live in the mountains. I could walk around all day saying "I live in the mountains, BITCH!"

Man that would be sweet...

hahaha I'm going to start keeping a log of how many days and nights a week I spend outdoors, biatch. :loco:

"Hey there new neighbor!"
"I live in the mountains, BITCH!"
"...well so do I, BITCH!"

If she was hot, that'd be my wife.

Just call a call from my realtor to start the process on a loan. He's also my guitarist, and a new member of the forum. :loco:
