How "mellow" will the new Opeth CD be?

the old clean riffs were mainly just clean single line stuff with a triad thrown in here and there. the newer acoustic sectinos are actually chord progressions, merely hightlighted with melodic single line stuff. this is what i meant by saying the acoustic stuff has progressed. they actually broke out of the standard metal single-picking triads and did full out chords.

and i think the thing with the clean parts is... they're supposed to sound soft.

haha I understand how the old clean parts were composed and I understand how the new clean parts are composed. I am reffering to the general feeling one gets from listening to them. For example, the clean part in Under the Weeping Moon (the long one in the middle) isn't what you would call "complex" but it scares the shit out of me, it gives me goospumps. The clean parts on Still life provoke no such feelings. That is what I mean when I say too soft. If I want to listen to complex guitar compositions I would go out and buy a classical guitar CD; what I am looking forward to is a metal recording with clean guitars. A recording that has that coldness and subtle brutality of early albums.

can't argue with you there. the old acoustic stuff deffinitely had an eerie quality to it. speaking of shit that sends shivers down your spine, opeth needs to do whispers again. orchid's whisper parts may have been a substitute for akerfeldt's inability to sing well then, but they fit so well. and that whisper in the amen corner still scares the shit out of me.

eerie circles upon the waters...
