just wondering..

Saw someone selling an old TS with TA75558P chip inside. for like 180$. is it a resonable price? and does it really worth buying a "vintage" one and pay more just to get boost? (mening low end tightness).

OR if you're going to spend that kind of scratch, grab one of Maxon's many overdrive pedals. Many of them are tube-screamer-style circuits, all of them that I've used sound better than actual TS808/TS9s.

I've got the Maxon OD9 Pro Plus but I'm also a big fan of the OD820, OD9, and their 808 model.

No point in paying over the odds for a vintage special chip bullshit tubescreamer. Just get the $40 TS7 and be done with it.

Can't buy 'em new anymore cause they've been discontinued. I guess ibanez figured out people were caching on that they could boost their amps just as well with a 30 dollar tube screamer as they could with one five times the price. But you can still find them used pretty cheap.

try to get an Ibanez TS7, I wasn't able to tell the difference most of the time, in a live situation, nobody will
ever realize it anyways and you can "hide" the pots, so you won't break them live or change the settings.
My old guitar player used a Digitech Bad Monkey, imho a cool little thing, no tone pot, a bass and a high pot
instead, makes it a bit more versatile imho.

The maxon stuff are kinda expensive comparing to SD-1 and TS-7. i can get the boss/ts7 brand new for 80$ (still a lot, but shit, everything is expensive here).

it's actually all doing the same shit, right?

SD-1 clips asymmetrically, so it has a bit more "balls".

I am going to use it with pasdive pickups do i guess its bettrr then? also does the amp mattets? i have a powerball which is a bit heavy on lows and lacks mid a little

ok i've found a ts-9 for even cheaper price the the sd1, used, and i can trade it for a crappy pedal i have, might do it..

I don't like the SD-1 as a boost, always sounds harsh when I try it.
I find the TS-7 to be a noisy pedal, adds a fair bit of hiss to the signal and if I have it in the chain and not on there seems to be a bit of tone suck and slight volume drop when compared to not in the chain at all.

Saying a SD-1 sounds better than a TS is highly subjective. I own both a SD-1 and an OD808 and the SD-1 is collecting dust. It's a lot noisier and a bit harsh on certain amps. It doesn't have that TS middy kind of character for better or worst.

Well i can buy a used ts9. but i listened to it and found out that even on 0 gain i get some crunchy sound... not clean at all, i thought the boost wasnt supposed to saturate too much, only clean the lows, right?

No this how a ts sound and most people use the drive at 9 o'clock anyway.

I always liked the sd-1 with marshalls or other similarly voiced amps. Put one in front of a jcm 800 and it's 80's metal bliss. With the modern sounding amps I like the tube screamers.
