How to get a similar snare sound?

What can you say, everyone has his own opinion.

To tell you the truth I never checked drum tuning before recording. I always letted it to drummers and now I can definetly here some of my recordings have weird tuned snares or toms.

@Jack Pirate I've send you a PM, if you could take a look.

Sorry man, nothing to do with culture, it's common sense. It's the same anywhere in the world, you just don't teach people the wrong thing. It's irresponsible at best. I agree that experience can't really be measured in years, but since it was brought to the table as a major card, then I might as well use it too.

Okay you win :worship:

How you misunderstood him is due to cultural miscommunication. Did you know that drums DO have a unit of tuning measurement? Us and Canada had one and Europe has one. I just don't follow tuning measurement caus the best way to measure is TO USE YOUR EARS!

Best tool: EARS!!!!

If you have bad ears, the best samples, preamps or whatever won't help you.

Here's a word of advice for all of you:
Go to your doctors and ask to get an ear check up and a cleaning/vacuuming from an ear specialist.

I get my ears checked every 6 months and after I recover from a cold/flu

A world of difference.

Lets call a spade a spade. You clearly meant volume when you said -2 , -3. Which makes it a dumb statement. If you can pick out when a sample has been detuned 1 cent without comparing to the original you are my hero. lol If i was really trying to make the snare bang i'd put it to 11.

Guys I recorded some samples and It sounds close but I can't get that punchness. Any ideas?

He didn't mean volume at all, or cents for that matter. I'm pretty sure he's referring to semitones or possibly quartertones. EDIT: He said he's referring to semitones in another post.

And it's probable the snare sound was created using either a low tuning or (possibly) by pitch shifting it down, since the snare in the clip is pitched lower than the average snare sounds we're all used to.

Let's hear them! Remember your original clip could be using EQ, transient designer, etc. You could also try a different mic, pre, placement, etc.

I haven't gone to far with it. It seems like something drastic changes have been made to the original clip. I don't seem to get anywhere with EQ or compression. I've sampled some snares and tried a few samples I've got here but can't get it. Any idea?

EDIT: listening to the rest of the track, later on there are some drums which sounds real, so probably the clip i posted is a sound that comes from a synth or something.

Thanks guys. Anybody have free time to get some samples please?

I've studied a little bit about drum tunings. In the clip I posted in the first post does it sound like the bottom head of the snare is tuned a lot higher than the top one?
