im gonna record a band and the drummer is great, his kit isnt so great, he has really good cymbals as well. i am thinking about using drumagog with steven slates samples and just keeping the cymbals real, what would be the safest way going about this? what would you do is what im really gettin at?

Yeah, I'd muffle the drums as to keep them out of the OH, and then use triggers. That's always easier than trying to sound replace.

Inside Drumagog you can set it to trigger from a midi input, it works well.

i have some roland electronic drum pads, should i just hook them up too the pre amps and digi 002 and then use drumagog?

The biggest concern will be keeping the drums out of the overheads. Record him playing just the drums to a click. Then overdub the hihat and cymbals. Then you can sample replace the kit to your hearts content without the sound of the shit kit in the overheads. Then after you sample replace everything pump the drum mix through a PA in the live room and record the PA as your room mics. That should glue the whole kit together.
