You said you did some work back in Nov or something and had booked the studio in Jan - so how's it going? What's it going to sound like? Is it gonna be real prog, unlike the last couple of Nightingale discs? I love Nightingale, but I'm really looking forward to some really chorusless, dark, PROGGY material from you Dan...

Any comments? :)

Chorusless? Nooooo! How boring.
You suck. If you want 80's hard rock choruses, stick to everything Alive Again onwards. They're like 70% hard rock/AOR + 30% prog.

What I expect from Second Sky, as Dan has also hinted, is a full-on prog assault, where Dan explores huge, multi-segmented tracks with interesting musical ideas, rather than repeated, sing-along chorus-friendly hard rock songs with 2000's production.

Expect the unexpected with Dan

haha

So you're saying Second Sky is going to be just like Nightingale, but under a different moniker? :erk:

No. S.S is a lot softer ( but still with choruses :loco: ) If you like Unicorn you gonna like S.S. You shouldn´t have a problem finding "proggstuff" without choruses. The world is full of them

Pffft! I love prog. I'm not looking for Def Leppard choruses, but a song needs a hook! =)

batmura, get this through your head: dan LOVES pop music! probably moreso than ever these days! didn't you notice that even his death metal bands have some pop in them?

I doubt it will be chorusless or dark. It's been said more than once in one way or another on this forum that Second Sky will be Unicorn 2, and Unicorn was the farthest thing from dark or chorusless that Dan has done!

A superslick late 70's/early 80's Toto with refrains/hooks a'la Wayne Hussey (the Mission)?

B.T.W
Dan, have you noticed Mission comes to Sthlm friday may 25 @ Berns.
I'll try to pay a visit from Örebro.

And you get this through your head:

When Dan first announced his will to start a project called Second Sky, he said, on this very board, that he wanted to make an album that was like the beginning of "Eternal" and VERY proggy. Given "Eternal" is pretty much the only prog song on Alive Again, it is only natural to expect something in that vein.

Besides, by chorusless I didn't mean songs with no hooks whatsoever. But when you listen to The Closing Chronicles, it's a whole lotta different than Alive Again and Invisible. Sure the songs there have hooks too, but they're certainly darker and harder to pigeonhole. I'm a fan of Nightingale, but they have clearly opted for an 80's hard rock sound on the last couple of discs; and I simply favour Dan's other work such as Odyssey, Godsend, earlier Nightingale (TCC & I), and definitely Unicorn. I do NOT think Unicorn resembles Nightingale in any way.

Capiche?
