hurray, cigarettes forbidden in public places

I say... make nicotine illegal and burn all the crops to the ground. It'll be hell on earth while everyone suffers from their withdrawls for a few months, but eventually they'll get over it and the world will be smoke free!
Black and mild cigars are good for keeping away mosquitos while fishing though.

Now for the death of the internal combustion engine...

No no no, now for the death of the oil companies who have us convinced that gasoline and diesel are the only two liquids that combust. An engine can (and they often do) run on many other substances, such things as compressed natural gas, alcohol (a much better use than of it than drinking if I may say so), or biodiesel. If it were designed to an engine could run on pretty much anything that you can light on fire.

if nicotine became illegal, the entire planet would implode... wayyy too many people smoke as it is to ban nicotine all together. so instead, if smoking becomes more of a hassle than a pleasure or leisurely activity, it will drive ppl not to smoke cuz they just dont want to deal with the hassle of it, hence, bans in public places
yeah..its not the public place thing thats really turning people off but the price of cigarettes..its getting really really hard to afford...

Doesn't it still have a negative impact on the environment, regardless of what you burn?

Wasn't there a recent development of a guy who made a car run on water? I'd say that's a pretty cool idea, since it's the most abundant substance on the planet (short of oxygen?).

The car running on water rumors have been around since the 70's. Its very possible to run cars on water, the government just isnt going to allow that to happen until the planet runs out of oil. Gas tax dollars, greedy oil corporations, and corrupt governements will make sure if that.

Yup. Alternative fuels and technology have been around since the 1930's. Technology in almost every field has grown exponentially in the past 100yrs, except the combustion energy, the basic technology has barely changed in that time...it's fairly obvious why.

NJ, had it right on the button :)

Yes, that would be the greatest thing ever....but as everyone else said, there are too many parties that will not allow that to happen.

endure the secondary smoke of others which has been proved to be as deadly as direct smoke.

Wait wait.. I thought they came out and admitted that they had no evidence to support that theory? Can't seem to find where I got that information from so here's something else;

http://www.smokingaloud.com/corrupt.html

I found half of that interesting until I realized I'm still hungover and reading hurts.

There are incredible amounts of convincing data approving and disproving the "SHS Kills" theory where ever you look. I'm sure there is atleast a slight health risk, though you're not going to start producing cancer cells by going to the bar one night.

I'm not disagreeing with the whole second-hand smoke can be a nuisance thing though. I'm a smoker myself but if I'm with people I'll always ask if they mind if I smoke around them be it indoors or outdoors. I'm not here to make people uncomfortable. Though of course you can't please everyone...

...and on that note, smoke break!

To be considerate to both non smokers and smokers alike I agree that they should insititute some sort of smoking room. However they would HAVE to be Extremely well ventilated rooms. Have you ever been in one of those smoking rooms in the airport in ATL? It's absolutely horrible! I thought I was going to pass out just walking in there.

thanks!!

I'd like to point out that the think thanks that deny second hand smoke as dangerous are primarily funded by tobacco companies.

Thank you, and good night.

"To my delight, I find that there is a different warning on each pack of cigarettes. Mine says: 'Warning: Smoking can cause fetal damage or premature birth'. Fuck it – I've found my brand! 'Yeah, give me a carton of Low Birth Weights.' Just don't get the ones that say lung cancer, you know? Shop around, it is your body."

The problem with the no smoking laws is that they don't make any sense.

Smoke can kill, but only people who don't work for big tobacco or participate in thier studies, so if you must smoke, do it in the privacy of your own home where you can only kill you and yours.... But make sure that if you're going to kill you and yours, you do it with the cigarette, because if you attempt to kill you and yours with, say, a machete, that'd be wrong. Besides, smoke clogs up the environment... unlike that spiffy new SUV you just bought - nope, absolutely no evidence that the SUV causes any damage.... unless, of course, it rolls over, but, really, that's just a technicality -- besides, you could always just get a hummer instead. Oh! Yeah, but if you're going to get a hummer, make sure it's the car, because we wouldn't want anyone to stay at home, not smoking or driving gass-guzzling cars, and playing around in a way that doesn't contribute to the overpopulation of the world -- that's just wrong and NASTY! Dirty! Dirty people! (and the band played on)
