I do that too. If I don't have some kind of drone to knock out with, my mind wont stfu and let me sleep. It's a lot healthier than falling asleep with the TV on, being unconsciously bombarded with advertisements from commercials.
While not a fan, I definitely require some sort of noise to actually sleep. Some of the best sleep I've ever had strangely enough was while I was in the hospital with the sound of a medication pump constantly keeping beat. Perhaps it was the morphine, but I'm sticking with my original theory.
Seriously thought - I either leave music playing extremely low all night or the TV on. I can never get to sleep in complete silence.
