and he has only been brought to my attention since he has done vocals on the Borknagar -Empiricism album. Any recommendations of where to start? I've heard a few downloads but don't know what album they are from.

I would go with Cosmic Genesis. That album is sort of a bridge between his newer and older stuff and from there you can branch out in either direction. I think if you liked Empiricism, you'd certainly enjoy this album. The opener "Astral and Arcane" is one of my absolute favorite songs.

Yep, Opeth totally aced that. Cosmic Genesis has like the sound of Till Fjalls or Odemarkems Son but with an increased production and lets of sections of technical guitar riffs and keyboard. Spiral Generator and Focusing Blur and fantastic, but they are certainly an aquired taste. The same goes for Till Fjalls and Odemarkems Son. I myself started off on Till Fjalls. Vintersorg is fantastic.

Vintersorg, hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I heard them, his clean vocals, and his harmonization ability wins over any anyone who likes their metal with clean vocals, just my opinion. Borknagar with their singer also is a highlight in their metal career. To bad they are done.
